Commercial Description:
This is a delicious, textural, and fizzy county ale, bright gold colour, citric and sour, reminiscent of a good champagne or lambic but in a class all its own.
Fantôme – Golden ale, 8% alc. by volume, with a wonderfully musty and characterful aroma. There are many drinkers out there who believe this is the “Nectar of the Gods.” Certainly no other brewer makes beer like this, in Belgium or anywhere. How many beers of 8% plus offer such fresh fruitiness? A solid Belgian saison beer at its base, with an unusual overlay of fruitiness.

The aroma is fruity and fresh with some funky yeast notes. Flavor is very nice, fresh and spicy. No noticeable alcohol. Awesome stuff.

Bottle. Strong gueuzey pineapple lemon, grapefruit, warm. Punchy. Mouth is pineappley warm, juicy and fizzy. Finishes slightly dry and sharp, never escaping that under-ripe pineapple. Excellent beer if a bit odd.

Bottle from Holiday Wine Cellar: Hazy pale peach color with a halo of off-white foam. Aroma is fruity with a little citrus sourness. Flavor starts tropical fruit sweet with over ripe orange followed by a light spicy bitterness and a tangy lemony dry finish. Medium body is smooth with lively carbonation.

Bottle. Pours a clear golden with a small white head that fades to a ring and leaves minimal lacing. Aroma of citrus, leather, some funk, and a hint of strawberries. Taste is the same as aroma with sweet strawberries being more prominent. Medium thin mouthfeel with very light carbonation and slightly tart finish. The low carbonation detracted from the overall pleasure of the beer but it’s still a very tasty brew.

I was a bit lit when I had this. Had been drinking at the Great Lakes Brewery and when we left we noticed a new wine tasting bar (new to me anyhow). At any rate, turns out they serve some nice beers there too (and the bar tender gave me a bottle of Hitachino Nest New Year Celebration Ale to take with me!) Anyhow, on with the rating. Hazy and lite gold. Very lite and enjoyable aroma. Flowery, lite lemon, strawberry spice and grain. Taste was very very lite and mild (as was the mouth feel). Was refreshing with great summer style beer and spice, fruit and mineral tastes. I think this would be great with any heavy meal!

Pours a hazy pale yellow color with lots of bubbly fizz. Aroma lemon and dough. Flavor is very sour and citrusy, specifically lemon and grapefruit. Overall, light and enjoyable but a tad too sour.

Aroma of apples and champagne. Golden brown body. Lots of sediment. Has a bit of a dry feel, with flavors of apples and a slight sourness. Very lightly spiced. Alcohol comes through strong at first but mellows out in the finish

Bottled. Cloudy wit colored beer. Very floral nose with a slight tartness evident. Flavors are lemon grass and tart apple. Dry, musty finish.
