COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
This is a tremendously delicious, textural, and fizzy county ale, bright gold colour, citric and sour, reminiscent of a good champagne or lambic but in a class all its own.
Fantôme – Golden ale, 8% alc. by volume, with a wonderfully musty and characterful aroma. There are many drinkers out there who believe this is the “Nectar of the Gods.” Certainly no other brewer makes beer like this, in Belgium or anywhere. How many beers of 8% plus offer such fresh fruitiness? A solid Belgian saison beer at its base, with an unusual overlay of fruitiness.

Wow! Really good beer, very specific taste, very fruity! This is one of the best beers I’ve ever drunk. Very nice appearance, aroma and flavor.

750ml bottle. Poured a lovely irridescent cloudy pale gold with a lasting foamy white head. Very yeasty nose, sweet & sour with tangy cherries and other bright fruit character. Crazy flavor! Tart and very fruity, sour cherries and just-underripe pineapple. A little spicy. Dominated by yeast-derived flavors. Finish starts buttery and becomes tart and bone-dry. Medium palate, gentle and velvety with an exciting sour/alcohol twang. A treat for lovers of weird, yeasty, sour beers ;-)

I usually hold the Saison’s off until the summer, but this is the first time I’ve found this beer at a retail store so had to give it a go. And it’s a good thing I did. Light colored pour, with some fruit aroma on the nose. I definitely consider this one of my favorites in its class.

Very fine looking beer. The aroma reminds me of wild strawberry and passion-fruit. Fist it taste like mango and wild strawberry, later like bubble gum.

Best of the Fantomes so far, also (luckily) the most available. Pours dark orange, hazy, tall white head, not much lacing or retention. Aroma is fruity, mostly oranges and peaches with a little pear. Also a bit funky. Flavor is much of the same with slightly more awesome-ness. Great beer overall.

Pours hazy golden. A compact aroma of flowers, fruit and yeast. Flavors are typically farmy but with added sweetness and oomph. Although there is grassy freshness this is not a refreshing saison in my opinion. It’s a full bodied, full flavored saison - on the sweet side.

Either (a) I got a "dud"--there were no signs of this, as far as I could tell--(b) this beer isn’t up to par for its style, or (c) I can’t appreciate the "intentional sapidness" of this white, sharp styled saison. I’ll sample it one more time, per Svesse’s recommendation (below), but I truly doubt my bottle was tainted. On to the usual stuff: ostensible amounts of caked sediment, undistributed; color-wise, pours like a pilsner, with a faint white head (I always pour at extreme angles to avoid dampening the effervescence with rough pouring); has a pungent, citrice, "saison" smell, but the taste--unlike the Dupont Avec les Bons Voeux--is dulsome and blasé (for a Belgium ale, that is). Green bottle, capped and corked, 1 pt 9.4 Fl. OZ, 8% abv.

Smells like Hoegaarten with the lemon in it. Looks PHENOMENAL in teh glass. Very little head, cloudy, amber. Tastes pretty damn fine as well. Solid one, all around.

Cloudy light amber color. Poor aroma, sour, wheat. Quite pleasant taste, but I don’t like too much the sourness. Bitter final, but not enough aromatic.

Pours a light, hazy gold, with an effervescent head. Aroma of funk, peaches, grapes, sour apples, cider. Taste has good body and carbonation, decent sour, with raspberries, plum... the list seems to go on. Juicy. Great lingering pucker for the finish. Excellent saison.
