COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
This is a tremendously delicious, textural, and fizzy county ale, bright gold colour, citric and sour, reminiscent of a good champagne or lambic but in a class all its own.
Fantôme – Golden ale, 8% alc. by volume, with a wonderfully musty and characterful aroma. There are many drinkers out there who believe this is the “Nectar of the Gods.” Certainly no other brewer makes beer like this, in Belgium or anywhere. How many beers of 8% plus offer such fresh fruitiness? A solid Belgian saison beer at its base, with an unusual overlay of fruitiness.

Straw color, beautiful huge head. Aroma was fruity with a touch of barnyard funk. Flavor had really just a tinge of barnyard funk but dominated by a peach/apricot fruity flavor with maybe a touch of pear. A touch of hop bitterness kept the very sweet nature from being overpowering. Not "crisp" and maybe a tad thin, but excellent nonetheless.

Pours a hazy golden/honey color with a thick white head...excellent retention and heavy lacing. Aroma has nice notes of funk and subtle peach...some citrus and apple. Flavor has nice funkiness...fruit is very subtle and has dried to notes of white wine...very light leather and grass. Mouthfeel is medium and silky with a dry funky/white wine finish.

Old rate. Bottle big time gusher sprayed the ceiling. Sheesh. Probably my favorite fantome beer. Awesome lemon. Peach. Old dusty funk.big time carbonation. Dry enough. Complex. Neat.

Bottle generously shared by the Shelton rep at Saint Somewhere. Pours a hazy yellow-gold with a white head. Nose is crazy blend of malt, citrus, some fruit, some funk, herbs, spices, and some rustic notes. Flavor is similar with malt, some funk, some herbs, some fruit, and some rustic notes. Medium in body and very complex.

A - pours murky effervescent orange/brown with high fluffy head that dissipates to a low thin coating. S - crazy bandaid funk when first poured. Over aggressive. As it warms the bandaid tones down. Must, floral and citrus come on quietly after the bandaid. M - vibrant carb with bright body. Balanced funk, fruit and light tartness. T - bandaid funk, fresh citrus (orange, grapefruit and pineapple) quiet bandaid funk, and dried grasses. O - this is a nice saison. Once the bandaid is funk slows down it turns out pretty good. I cant get past the bandaid funk. bad bottle ? 3.2

Color: nice clear blond beer with small copper reflexion and small carbonization, medium white foam. Smell: acid and floral nose with malt presence. Taste: as a gueuze with acid taste but really floral and some sugar note, really pleasant! Easy drinkable. Aftertaste: small peat taste and floral taste.

750mL from Corvallis Brewing & Supply. Best by July 2013 bottle date. A: Pours with a noticeable fizz and a corresponding dearth of head a few moments after settling. Hazy golden straw color with thousands of bubbles rising to escape. N: Can smell the malt and funk from 3 feet away. Lots of lemon zest and some light sugar. There’s a grain and wood about this, and I also get some green peppercorn, straw, and horse stable. Maybe some rosemary or sage? T: Moderate sourness and lots of dough. Has an appreciable tartness of apples and cider with some funk from the fermentation. M: Light and crisp. Carbonation is prickly without being biting. O: Beyond expectations as usual. It’s all over the place while still being enjoyable to drink. Some of these bottles are ticking time bombs, this one was excellent. I should’ve bought more when I saw them.

The Fantome pours a orange-hazy beer with a thin white head that disappears quite fast. The beer looks very hazy, although it has been left undisturbed for a few weeks in the cellar and for several hours in the fridge. The aroma is very fruity and has some latic-sourness present too. The beer tastes very malty and fruity with a pleasant sourness in the after-taste. It is a beer with a full-body and not too strong carbonation. Overall an excellent brew with the alcohol very well hidden. Quite unique and to some extent exotic.

Pale hazy golden pour with a thin layer of bubbly white head ... aroma of a lambic, funky barnyard, citrusy lemon and smoke .... taste is smokey and of citrusy hops, lemony with a nice spicy hop bite .... mouthfeel is sour and a little lively ... finish is dry smokey and bitter with a lingering citrusy hop bite .... definitely different with the smoke flavor ... abv hidden well like saison meets lambic

Poured from bottle into a tulip. Hazy orange color with a fluffy white head that dissapates quickly. Aroma is bandaids and more bandaids. Am I at the doctor’s office? Flavor is more bandaid funk with some hints of fruit. God this is fucking awful. Light mouthfeel with adequate carbonation. I hope this is a bad bottle, otherwise I have lost all faith in Rate Beer ratings...
