This is a tremendously delicious, textural, and fizzy county ale, bright gold colour, citric and sour, reminiscent of a good champagne or lambic but in a class all its own.
Fantôme – Golden ale, 8% alc. by volume, with a wonderfully musty and characterful aroma. There are many drinkers out there who believe this is the “Nectar of the Gods.” Certainly no other brewer makes beer like this, in Belgium or anywhere. How many beers of 8% plus offer such fresh fruitiness? A solid Belgian saison beer at its base, with an unusual overlay of fruitiness.

Bottle to glass. Pours a cloudy light amber color with a frothy off white head. Aroma is Belgian yeast, light citrus, peach, slight bandaid. Flavor has a huge bandaid character, like a doctors office, touch of Belgian yeast. Interesting. Not bad.

In bottiglia.

Orange, very hazy, massive tanned head. Smell of spices, yeast esters, hints of funk, alot of fruits, light malts. Light to moderate sweet, very spicy, a touch of musty cellar, some sap and leaves, alot spices and nice yeast influende. Moderate bitter, totally a very amazing and complex saison!

Pours hazy orange with a soapy white head. Aroma is inbetween tart and musty. Quite alcoholic as well. Certainly spicy and quite yeasty as well. Some nice winter fruits... Good winterish aroma. Bit too alcoholic, but it fits within its style. Taste is mild bittersweet with a sourish touch, giving it a bit of a fruity total, which comprises largely of apples. Nice sour lingering throughout the end, accompanied by a mild hoppy bitterness in the long lasting finish. Lovely with a dish of old/strong cheeses. Medium bodied, with a sticky texture. Good pick for the colder days of the year.

Aromas of spice and lemon, with a tartness and mustiness in the background. Hazy pale gold with a white head that quickly falls to a ring around the glass of small bubbles. Slight lacing down the sides. Taste is fruity and acidic tartness. Lemon in moderate amounts on the back palate. Malt is haylike and fresh. Yeast has rustic barnyard characteristics. Finishes dry and quickly.

Bottle at home. Pours a hazy orange colour with a soap-like, off-white head. A little sweet aroma of citrus, bread, alcohol, dried apricot and some caramel and spices. Fruity flavour with dried fruit, spices and alcohol. Has a rich and slick mouth feel. A malty saison with some spicy touches and hops in the background. A strange ale but grows on me. Maybe a great food beer.

Bottle from Belgian e-shop I’m trying to not be enthusiastic about this beer but I can’t. This beer was surprisingly hoppy and so satisfyingly complex. The nose was sweetish, complex spices, apple, a little honey. Golden and hazy, white frothy head. Fruity flavor, apple, citrusy and hoppy. I could easily mistaken it for 5% alcohol, very drinkable. Balanced sweet and sour taste with surprisingly hoppy (but not too btter) long and dry finish. One of the best Saison I have tasted so far.
