4.6 AROMA 10/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 19/20 Slatetank (16) - York, Pennsylvania, USA - JUN 18, 2011 taken from notes: Thanks very much to BA idesofmarch89 for this great beer - 750ml shared w/ my wife. Poured chilled into a a cervoise.
A - Marigold shade of golden w a full 2 fingers of white cap that dissipates completely but carbonation continues and fine beading develops
S - Sweet and sour citrus notes explode out of the glass w/ a mild white grape mixed w/ peaches and honey. The nose is light malt scent w/ tinges of floral hops
M - Crisp w/ gentle acidity and a mild sweet texture, a hint of spice and alcohol w/ moderately low carbonation for the style. The feel is nutty/sour in texture which is very juicy
T - A very taste taste like marmalade w/ lemon spritz w/ a tinge of white grape and lightly sugared lime w/ mild spice at the end w/ nutty malt/yeast complimenting this highly fruity saison. The apricot and lemony flavor w/ mild wheat-like nuttiness is smooth + seamless w/ a juicy sweet and mild sour element that is well suited to the style
D - I would drink this any time of year, not just a summer saison to me. This saison is unique and drinkable like no other. I would choose this over 4 out of 5 saisons most likely. I can’t recommend this enough - intense and slightly sour, but refreshing.
4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20 writerljberg (228) - Oregon, USA - MAY 22, 2013
750mL from Corvallis Brewing & Supply. Best by July 2013 bottle date.
A: Pours with a noticeable fizz and a corresponding dearth of head a few moments after settling. Hazy golden straw color with thousands of bubbles rising to escape.
N: Can smell the malt and funk from 3 feet away. Lots of lemon zest and some light sugar. There’s a grain and wood about this, and I also get some green peppercorn, straw, and horse stable. Maybe some rosemary or sage?
T: Moderate sourness and lots of dough. Has an appreciable tartness of apples and cider with some funk from the fermentation.
M: Light and crisp. Carbonation is prickly without being biting.
O: Beyond expectations as usual. It’s all over the place while still being enjoyable to drink. Some of these bottles are ticking time bombs, this one was excellent. I should’ve bought more when I saw them.
3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 felipelo (14) - NETHERLANDS - MAY 18, 2013
The Fantome pours a orange-hazy beer with a thin white head that disappears quite fast. The beer looks very hazy, although it has been left undisturbed for a few weeks in the cellar and for several hours in the fridge. The aroma is very fruity and has some latic-sourness present too. The beer tastes very malty and fruity with a pleasant sourness in the after-taste. It is a beer with a full-body and not too strong carbonation. Overall an excellent brew with the alcohol very well hidden. Quite unique and to some extent exotic.
3.6 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 italianjohn (2029) - Penndel, Pennsylvania, USA - MAY 17, 2013
Pale hazy golden pour with a thin layer of bubbly white head ... aroma of a lambic, funky barnyard, citrusy lemon and smoke .... taste is smokey and of citrusy hops, lemony with a nice spicy hop bite .... mouthfeel is sour and a little lively ... finish is dry smokey and bitter with a lingering citrusy hop bite .... definitely different with the smoke flavor ... abv hidden well like saison meets lambic
1.5 AROMA 1/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 2/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 6/20 BMMillsy (687) - Florida, USA - MAY 10, 2013
Poured from bottle into a tulip. Hazy orange color with a fluffy white head that dissapates quickly. Aroma is bandaids and more bandaids. Am I at the doctor’s office? Flavor is more bandaid funk with some hints of fruit. God this is fucking awful. Light mouthfeel with adequate carbonation. I hope this is a bad bottle, otherwise I have lost all faith in Rate Beer ratings...

Bottled 750ml. -Murky orange coloured, medium sized white head, sourish spicy nose. Sweet, fruity and very spicy with hint of peach and passion fruit. Relatively complex and not so alcoholic as I’ve expected.

Tried this fresh and was floored. So funky and musty with lots of fruity Esther’s. There is a light lactic tartness and crazy complexity.

1.9 AROMA 3/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 3/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 9/20 MikeLuke23 (35) - Tampa, Florida, USA - APR 22, 2013
Awesome to buy this off the shelf in Florida. The aroma is very delicate and subtle. This has a very rustic & earthy flavor. Very different from the commercial description that states fruity & sour as flavors. Decent Sasion, just decent.

Bottle at home (april 14, 2013). Hazy dark orange with white head and nice lacings. Aroma of sweet candy-like strawberry, Citrus, fruity esters and some peaty notes. Taste has in the beginning a yeasty bitterness. Spicy banana, pear and lemon peel. Musty, sweaty, almost salty and peaty aftertaste. Some sweet caramel at the end. Mouthfeel is full and a bit sticky but well carbonated and refreshing. Really interesting, great!
