Rusty red and brown hue with a brown tan head, very well formed. Flavor os harsh wood and nutty, toasty sweet malts. A little harsh, too sweet as well, too pasty, but has a nice brown sugar finish. Not bad, but boring and a little plain. Too heavy, thick body, but not carbonated well enough. Oakes (6819), Miami Beach, Florida, USA Apr 26, 2005 Draught, Stumbling Monk, Seattle
Dark reddish-mahogany colour. Whispy head. Slightly candyish aroma with hints of bubblegum. Flavour is sweet, lightly yeasty, with hints of caramel. Light peachy fruitiness adds to a fairly unique character. drismyhero (815), Tacoma, Washington, USA Mar 10, 2005 Of all of the Far West beers offered at "brewer’s Night" this was probably the most well crafted of the bunch (although I was pleasantly surprised by the Hefe). This, like the others, has a big floral aroma, but the defining diference here is the bubblegummy Belgian yeast working its way through the perfume. The actualy flavor was surprisingly mellow considering the powerful aroma, sticky yeast mixed with fig, currant, and caramel. The mouthfeel here, like the others, does seem to die off a bit, but not as severely. All-around a good beer, but surely not going to win any awards in the near future.
