glkaiser (1017), Seattle, Washington, USA Feb 4, 2006 Updated: May 24, 2006 This was my favorite beer at the Strange Brewfest at Water Street Brewing in Port Townsend, WA. Pleasant surprise to find out I don’t work too far from where this brew pub is... Great espresso taste and smell. Like someone dropped a shot of steaming coffee right in my beer. Very black... Loved this. 9.4.9.4.19 - 4.5 first rate.
Re-rating from the bottle; bought at K’s Deli. Close to black...more extremely dark red. Medium head. Wonderful aroma of lots of chocolate and coffee. This is still one of the best espresso flavors I’ve ever gotten from a beer. Starts off a bit sweet and wine-like as some have described. Finishes with roasted malts and good espresso. Definitely a thin beer..wish it was thicker. I love this beer though and will be going to buy what the bottle shop has left, as I believe this brewery is out of business.
bitbucket (1601), Kirkland, Washington, USA Jan 21, 2007 Bomber. Pours a clear dark brown with an off white head. Hazelnut and caramel nose. Medium body and carbonation. Roasted nuts and chocolate in the taste, with a piney finish. after4ever (1925), Brier, Washington, USA Jan 21, 2007 Bomber, thanks to the kind hospitality of BitBucket. This might be the last one for the rest of our lives, and more’s the pity. Pours a deep grainy black. Moussy but thin burnt tan head. A little clingy lace. Big roasty and chocolatey nose. Forward attack with nice big body, active carb, strong flavors (same as nose). Awesome. stoutlover72 (1342), NorCal, California, USA May 22, 2006 Intersesting beer here. I was caught off guard by the flavors of this beer, almost being wine-like in character. Aroma was buttery, malty sweet, chocolate and toffee. Flavors had some roasty bitterness to it, but it was also rather vinuous. I think it would take awhile for a porter like this to grown on my, but it has the potential to do so. Davecooks (1150), Concord, California, USA May 10, 2006 Bottled. Dark pour, almost black with a Coca-Cola colord head. Licorice and cocoa aromas. Dry and musty flavor with some chocolate. Rather watery. JorisPPattyn (4638), Antwerpen, Belgium Apr 19, 2006 Draught Black beer with a yellow-transparent head. Coffee, espresso, coffee dregs, bittersweet nose. Black coffee again, ink, mushrooms or black-roasted peppers without the capsicaine burn. Burning MF all the same, medium bodied, but giving a (false) very dense impression. It’s just falling short of excellence points; Cutting corners or wanting to water the style?
