3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
Cask conditioned Handpump Wig & Pen Northampton. A mid brown coloured beer with a whitish head. really good bready malts with strong fruity hops in this. verging on a US amber in many ways. The cascade is excellent here. A lovely body for a sub 4%er but the brandy probably helped with that although I couldn’t taste it. Superb flavours and excellent balance.

2.7 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20
Cask (gravity dispense), Chelmsford Beer Festival. You generally expect a brewer to produce something a little bit special for commemorative ale. However, this is a bog standard, amber coloured session bitter. Dry and rather dull. OK for supping, but doesn’t bear detailed analysis. Average in every way.
