3.7 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 Ethereal (2399) - Los Angeles, USA - MAR 2, 2008
Gravity cask at the Battersea Beer Festival, 7th Feb 2008. Reddish amber with a slight malt aroma. Very bitter tasting, with an iron tinge that does make you think of blood! Long dry finish. Good for those of us who like a hoppy pint.
3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20 DruncanVeasey (5150) - NUNEATON, Blue Square Prem, Warwickshire, ENGLAND - APR 29, 2012
Bottle the in-laws picked up for me at the brewery. Ribena red; sloppy, with a beige swirl of head. Seriously inviting aroma; ripe blackcurrant, pollen and coffee. Juicy, well balanced flavour with tangy hedgerow and floral hops, just-crushed milk chocolate Hobnob notes, dry roasted, liquorice. Something of the flavour profile of a black IPA. Not a hint of dead admiral, or even brandy. Quite a beer.

Cask conditioned Handpump Wig & Pen Northampton. A mid brown coloured beer with a whitish head. really good bready malts with strong fruity hops in this. verging on a US amber in many ways. The cascade is excellent here. A lovely body for a sub 4%er but the brandy probably helped with that although I couldn’t taste it. Superb flavours and excellent balance.

Cask, gravity dispensed, at the Cambridge Beer Festival. Deep reddish mahogany in colour with a trace of white head; fruity aroma; rich and full fruity flavour; then a dry finish. Rather like a porter, despite trhe low ABV.
2.6 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 11/20 Alphadelic (1483) - Portland, Oregon, USA - MAR 12, 2010
500ml bottle: Still and syrupy looking without much of a head to it at all. The nose is lightly fruity but nothing to write home about. In the mouth it sweet caramel then slightly eggy yeast and a woody hint of spice and a dry finish. The aftertaste contains maybe a hint of that brandy warmth in the finish? It’s actually alright. A bit watery and still for me though.
