argo0 (6019), Washington DC, USA Dec 26, 2007 (12oz bottle) Small tan head that diminishes almost completely, atop clear body, brown with notes of copper. Aroma is moderately sweet, chocolate, some coffee, caramel, nutty. Taste is medium sweet, chocolate, some coffee, light earthy. Watery light-medium body, undercarbonated. Braudog (3461), Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates Nov 29, 2007 Bottle: Pours almost entirely foam, the solid top surrendering slowly into a reddish brown sheen. The aroma is light, airy, woodsy and nutty. My first impression of the flavor is wood and bark ... as it goes, aspects of chocolate, fizzy bitterness and raw earth. This is a tasty brown ale. I need some cheese. (Rating #1269) Cottrell (72), Connecticut, USA Apr 6, 2006 My favorite beer from the Farmington River line, easily. Pours a very dark chocolate brown with crimson edges. Aroma is very strong and robust, chocolate, espresso, sweet caramel, and light roasted nuttiness. Flavor is wonderfully sweet, starting with chocolate and coffee, turning dryer and roasty with coffee, dark chocolate, with some light citrussy sweet and sticky hops. This certainly was a pleasant surprise out of the mixed 12 pack, best beer in the pack IMO. DYCSoccer17 (1996), Davis, California, USA Jan 28, 2006 On tap as a guest beer at The Cambridge House in Granby, CT. 4 ounce sample. Hoppy citrus-like aroma with some pine aromas present. Certainly smells like there is a fair amount of Cascades. I also detect some roasted malty notes in the background as well. Suprisingly hoppy for a brown ale. Transparent amber/brown color with a small khaki head. Mild lacing. Buttery start with some evergreen flavors from the hops. Turns kind of milky and roasted in the middle with some chocolate flavors. Finishes with more hoppiness. This beer is more of a porter than a brown ale. This is quite jumbled and the continuity isn’t there. It doesn’t taste like a brown ale, which isn’t necessarily a bad thing!
