A new country rating. Come on down Malta. This sweet milk stout is as mild-mannered as Clark Kent, but without the secret identity. There’s less going on here than meets the eye. It’s a fair-looking brew, Guinness black with a thick tan head. Thin aroma of chocolate milk and burnt sugars. Sweet but insubstantial, promising little. Medium bodied and smooth. What little flavour there is is as mild as the aroma. Sweet with soft dark malts and negligible bitterness. Some Coca-Cola sugars and very milky chocolate. Very easy drinking but there’s not enough here to form an attachment. (330ml bottle courtesy of Bridge - thanks amigo. BB April 2008)

Hmmm. Not terrible. Probably better than 31 percentile. But, not the best out there either. Pours a dark brown/light black color with a tan frothy head. Nice sweet flavor, definite lactose in the texture and mouthfeel. Nice mix of caramel and malts. Not bad.

Bottle. Rich ruby blac/brown with a tan head. Malty, caramel aroma. Malty, caramel, lcatose/milky flavor. Slight creamy mouthfeel. Lingering milky/lactose and caramel.

I loved this stuff! Bottle marked 3.8%. Pours pretty thick, with a rocky, light brown head covering a deep mahogonay body. Pretty good lacing left by the head. Aroma of milk, malt, skunk, grass, bread, and caramel. taste is smooth and really a lot like a thick milk or whipping cream taste at the finish. A bit dry on the mouth throughout, but nice levels of carbonation. Lots of flavor for such a low ABV, a great little beer that is vastly underated.

Very muted sweet caramel and molasses aroma. The body is black and holds a slowly diminishing tan head that leaves excellent lacing. Sweet caramel the barest faint hint of hop or roast bitterness. Mostly sweet molasses and caramel. Perfectly drinkable int hat there is nothing but the sweetness to be offended by. Very thin and watery for a stout.

12 oz bottle

Picking up beers from new countries is always a crapshoot. In this case I found smoething that decent though unlikely to ever be recommended. Unless you have problems finding other Malta beers do not buy this. If you are going to then make sure it is only a single so as to not be saddled with a whole sixer.

Aroma / Appearance - A muddy brown head took over the top half of the shaker before eventually settling into a more reasonable one finger height. Underneath was a black opaque body that swirled fluidly around the glass. Caramel apple cider is the main theme here though I am not sure why. The label advertises it as a sweet milk stout.

Flavor / Palate - The milk does manage to come out in the first or second sip before being smothered by caramel sweetness. Fading fast and very thin it doesn’t make much of a mark. Plain and drinkable this tastes more like a flavored cider than a beer. As a result I definitely will be skipping this one in the future.
