On tap drunk it in Maastricht. A nice ballanced beer. With a taste of alcohol and roasted malts

(On tap) Clear, orangey brown with a small, off-white head. Aroma of roasted malt and alcohol. Very full-bodied with roasted malt notes and a touch of caramel. A very alcoholic finish with some brutal bitterness. Way too much alcohol that even the solid body cannot sustain making this a not so harmonious Bock. 081106

Bottled. An amber coloured beer with no head or lacing. The aroma is sweet and malty with caramel brown sugar notes. The taste is sweet and malty with some bready malts and a good depth of nuttiness. Some alcohol warmth. A nice beer but there are many much better doppelbocks.

Bottle (bought at the brew-pub 11/05): Light amber coloured, thin but stable, lacing off-white head, hazy; sweetish, alcoholic (brandy-like) and fruity (raisins) nose; sweet alcoholic flavour with a touch of bitterness, medium-bodied; a bit dryer in the finish with some hoppiness coming later. Not bad, quite well made, quite easily drinkable; only the alcohol could be better hidden.....

Bottled. Clear nut brown, firm, creamy head. Deep buttery malt aroma with notes of spun sugar. Sweet with wonderfully soft mouthfeel anf fantastic buttery malt flavours. There’s caramel, raisins on top of the malt simmers some light grassy hops, but its the vast malt character that drives the beer. If it’s something that keeps this beer from achieving perfection it’s the sweetness.

Bottle. Malty aroma. Copper colour, stable head. Flavour is malty and sweet, not that interesting. I do not really know what all the fuss is about. Should be able to do better with 8.5%.

(bottle, from pivnizub – thanks !) Clear and pale amber colour with a short foamy off-white head. Sweet and bready toasted malty aroma with caramel and alcohol. Sweet flavour with a sour touch, full bodied, moderate carbonation. Sweet toasted malty taste, toasted with hints of caramel, also a shy fruity tinge. Sweet malty finish with a tinge of hoppiness. Not bad, but I´m really not overwhelmed.

Bottle, sampled at Akkurat. Pours out amber colour with a creamy white head. Simplistic sweet and grassy aroma, small hints of almond and "noble" hops. Malty grassy flavour, hints of nuts and toffee but the pale malts dominates. Grassy and plain boring aftertaste.

Bottle @ Akkurat, Stockholm
Hazily fruity and a hint of smoked malts. Crispy and fresh and hard to tell the alco content. Moreish.

Germany, Nov 2003. Head is initially small, frothy, off-white, mostly lasting. Body is medium brown. Aroma is moderately malty (toasted bread, roasted nuts, caramel), with notes of smoke, dates, and maple. Flavor is heavily sweet, lightly acidic, lightly bitter. Finish is moderately sweet, lightly acidic, moderately bitter. Medium to full body, velvety texture, lively carbonation, moderately alcoholic. Decadent example, maybe a bit too much alcohol though.
