Bottle @ Akkurat, Stockholm
Hazily fruity and a hint of smoked malts. Crispy and fresh and hard to tell the alco content. Moreish.

3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Germany, Nov 2003.
Head is initially small, frothy, off-white, mostly lasting.
Body is medium brown.
Aroma is moderately malty (toasted bread, roasted nuts, caramel), with notes of smoke, dates, and maple.
Flavor is heavily sweet, lightly acidic, lightly bitter.
Finish is moderately sweet, lightly acidic, moderately bitter.
Medium to full body, velvety texture, lively carbonation, moderately alcoholic.
Decadent example, maybe a bit too much alcohol though.

3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
This as my last beer of last night. After 1/2 liter I still managed (with help) to find my way back to my room. It’s strong and bold enough but there are Bamberg beers I like better. Medium brown, and a bit different but it was not my favorite.

2.7 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 10/20
I normally like beers that are complex or out of the ordinary. This one is both but still I don’t like it. Too sweet, nasty bitterness, too alcoholic.

2.3 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 9/20
Clear dark orange color, short head. Aroma of alcohol, some malt. Very alcholic taste, bit sour. Crap beer.

3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
Bottled. Amber bronze, good thin white head and good condition. Malty and slightly woody in the nose with some hops and background melanoidins. Full bodied and chewy in the mouth with some peppery hop notes, plenty of malt and obvious alcohol. Quite bitter in the finish with a chalky dryness that lingers just a little too long. Sells its self as the strongest Bamberg beer, but the alcohol prevents some of its more subtle nuances from shining through. Seemed more balanced on tap, although after 2 drinks balance was the last thing I was capable of .

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
UPDATED: NOV 21, 2006 8% on the label. Amber colored, pretty light for a doppelbock. Malty plumaroma, with only a hint of smokiness. Malty, slightly smoky flavor. Alcohol clearly present. Long burning hopbitter finish. Not bad, but I expected better. (7 3 6 3 13 = 3.2)
Tap, Het Pleintje Hengelo. Amber color. Smells like caramel cake. Fluid bread in the flavor. More than hints of roast and smoke in the flavor. Very malty, full bodied. Earthy hops. Delicious and characterful.

4.3 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 18/20
This is nice, a warming malt flavour. Although bottem fermeting still full of flavour. A tempting half liter size. Hear hear for Fassla.
