Mungo (2472) - Southampton, Hampshire, ENGLAND - AUG 30, 2006
Draught @ Fassla, Bamberg. Overly sweet with much reduced hopping compared to the lagerbier. Thin but heavy in stomach at same time. I didnt enjoy the beer too much but even so it was quite pleasant sitting in the courtyard drinking it.

Draught at the brewery, very carbonated, a clear straw yellow with a white foamy head. Floral hop aroma. Floral and herbacious flavours on a good clean palate. Refreshing - a top Pils.

Hermod (2196) - Vantaa, FINLAND - MAR 3, 2012
50cl bottle. BBE 03/2012. Poured clear golden with a creamy, lacing white head. Aroma is grainy malty, herbs and hops. Flavor has lots of grain, light sweetness, decent bitterness, dry finish. Great pilsener, but this was bit too old. Fresh or from the tap this would be awesome.

Ahh, beautiful Bamberg in the summer sun. Has a bustling country town feel about it. Quick to drink this town is, it seems we woke later than the patrons of Fässla who were already bending elbows with this stuff in the early morning, a time I usually reserve for coffee and crumpet, maybe some pumpernickel. The first night of our stay here Deutschland won a group qualifier in the World Cup so Fässla Bräu simply roared for around 18 hours more, no sleep that night, this was the poison.
Vom fass into its own tall glass. Bright sunny gold body, light, fine streams of carbonation rose to a lovely, fluffy, snow-white head that held on and daubed long legs of froth down the glass. Obscenely clean nose of fresh cracked pepper, leafy herbs and grass, and just a touch of dry, summery grains underneath. Dry, raspy and grassy hops in the mouth add a zing to the slightly sour malt tones in the back. Layers of dry, gritty malts upfront and across the mid-palate. Good, firm bitter bite on the swallow, peaks and drops off with notes of eucalypt and bay leaves, and some more sour malt and hops. Very fresh tasting, the body is light, almost delicate, and it bounces ever so hastily across the palate. So clean and precise. I liked this, it suited the brewpub. A no-nonsense, anytime of day quaffer that made for a good night, with the inclusion of the raucous, lovable locals. A simple Pils, but a good one!!!

On tap at Fassla.
Appearance : Clear yellow with some lacing.
Aroma : Nice malt with slightly citrusy hops. Very fresh.
Taste : Malt and hops. Finish slightly bitter and grainy.
Overall : A little bit watery. Not bad but nothing out of the ordinary. I hink the helles lager I had right before was a bit better but both were a bit boring.
