   AROMA 6/10   APPEARANCE 4/5   TASTE 6/10   PALATE 3/5   OVERALL 12/20
JorisPPattyn (8387) - Ursel, BELGIUM - JUN 17, 2007
Slightly hazy, quite carbonated yellowish beer with small whitish head. Freshly cut garden herbs & greenery, discreet hops and definitely wheat, freshly cut grass or nettles. Slightly smoked taste at the beginning, biscuit, malty rather than wheaty in the flavourprofile. Yet, the wheat ends up coming later. Very little fruitiness, even less clove. Light to medium bodied, wheat slickness. Bubblegum in the aftertaste. Rather ubiquitous Hefe.

harrisoni (14984) - Ashford, Kent, ENGLAND - MAY 19, 2007
500ml bottle at Ealing BF 2007. Cloudy gold with lasting beige head. Bit of stale cardboard and green hop on aroma. Some esters. The sediment in suspension sits at the top which is odd. On a wet evening in Ealing it doesn’t quite fit, but a hot summers day in Bamberg, would be wonderful.

Emil (6065) - Copenhagen, DENMARK - MAR 27, 2007
Draught at the brauhaus. Hazy yellow colour with a big white head. Grassy, hay, light banana aroma and taste. Medium body with a sparkeling, dry finish.

duff (5484) - Copenhagen, DENMARK - MAR 16, 2007
Bottle. Quite lemony, with less estery banana character than most German wheats. Having said this, there is some subtle banana and clove, slightly tart in the mouthfeel aswell. Decent.

chriso (7482) - London, Greater London, ENGLAND - DEC 31, 2006
Bottle, at St Albans Beer Festival, September 2006. Orange colour - relatively dark for a hefe. Quite sweet with slight banana ester presence but some sharp citric notes too. Light spicy undertones. A decent, if unspectacular, hefe.

Papsoe (25075) - Frederiksberg, DENMARK - NOV 17, 2006
(Bottle 50 cl) Hazy, pilsener golden with a nice, off-white head. Distinct banana aroma. Medium-bodied, sweetish with lots of fruit - again the banana esters stand out. Some phenol. 081106

pivnizub (9195) - Bochum, Porúří, GERMANY - OCT 29, 2006
Bottle (purchased at the brewery): Pale golden, rather quickly diminishing fluffy head; fresh citrus-fruity nose with bananas and cloves backstage; sweetish-sourish flavour, lightbodied; wheaty-citrousy finish. A fresh and pleasant Weizen

skortila (4816) - Baarn, NETHERLANDS - OCT 14, 2006
Aroma of wheats, banana and yeast. Cloudy, orange coloured with a lasting, medium, white frothy head. Taste is sweet (just a little bit too sweet), bit malty, yeasty, fruity (bananas and citrus). Nice brew, but one dimensional.

fonefan (38496) - VestJylland, DENMARK - OCT 2, 2006
Bottle. Hazy orange with lasting white head. Fruity nose - little spice, slightly wheaty and clovy aroma. Sweetish body with some malty flavours and a bit of herby hop towards the end which gives a nice finish to the beer.

ALLOVATE (2591) - Perth, AUSTRALIA - SEP 28, 2006
Bottle, Fässla Bräu, Bamberg, Germany.
Into it’s own Weissbier glass late into a Friday evening. Opaque, cloudy, yellow gold with a well-supplied, huge and surging rocky white head that gripped to the glass to leave some very intricate lacing. Big, sweet and ripe bananas on the nose with softer showings of spicy phenols, dusty wheat and bubblegum. Lovely aroma that just kept lifting. In the mouth generous portions of banana and bubble gum cover and smother the palate. Underneath is some soft notes of grainy, wheat malt, vanilla and tangy, ripe lemons. Big presence of clove-like phenols in back where it dries out somewhat and shows a sour, spicy edge on the swallow. Finish is quite dry, a little tangy and fruity, and quite crisp as it drops off quickly. This literally dances on the palate - well charged in carbonation, light in body but big and juicy in flavour. It lasts well remaining clean and crisp for the length without becoming gammy or pasty, which gives it extra points. I’d have to say this is one of the best Hefeweizens that I’ve tasted. Outstandingly balanced between esters and phenols, exciting to drink and quaffable to boot. This was tasty stuff.
