UPDATED: MAY 27, 2006 Impressions from the schwemm:
-Frothy foam and clear reddish-brown hues adopt an icea tea look after but a few minutes.
-Like their Pils, this has an aqueous, überclean feel, which is ridiculously drinkable.
-Toffee and roastiness present simple ideas to the flavor spectrum.
-Charred meats subtly suggest depth in the nose.
-Flaky roasted malt bitterness rises in the back.
-The tiny bubbling and lean body are too slippery for my tastes.
-Everything’s so timid and watery, this is ultimately boring and appears to be brewed for the masses.

From the bottle at the brewery.

Orange tinted light brown beer, small white head, fast gone, leaving faint lace. Sweet, liquorice-like nose, faintly nutty. Sweet, again nutty and bready flavours. Sweet, but not sugary, more milke or bread (malt) sugar, fading very slowly. Light bodied, but there is really some malt beefing up the MF. Good session beer, sweet but as it is not cloying it goes down well.

Cycled into town (Bamberg) from our campsite just outside at Bug 17-06-10 had this on tap at the brewery tap. Pours chestnut in colour with a white head, good clarity Some toffee and mineral notes detected on nose, and also in the mouth, soft mouthfeel. Surprisingly thin for the abv, bitterness at end. Bottle at the brewery. To speak the truth, a rather uninteresting unfiltered dunkel, when coming from a bottle after the lager or pils here. Medium dark, very little malt taste and almost no sweetness. A good bit of hops. I was already past prime tasting ability by this time, but it was a significant letdown after the lager. Not bad, but lacking most of what I expect in a darker beer.

50 cl bottle, BBE 15.09.2011
Aroma has bready, sweetish malt and some metal. Flavour has lots of sweetish and bready malt with hints of metal. Good dunkel, but the metalliness disturbs a bit.

500 ml bottle @ Gastropub Tuulensuu, Tampere.
Pours a brown colour with a small foamy head. Aroma of quite heavy nutty malts and brown sugar. Flavour of nutty malts, brown sugar, grassy hops, metals and raisins. Quite dry and somewhat sticky mouthfeel with a finish of malts. Nice one.

Light oak colour. The aroma is malty with bready and yeasty accents. Fresh and clean on the palate with pale malt and a hint of hop. A good, refreshing, beer. Bottled at Bedford beer Festival 2004.
