2.6 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 10/20 fiulijn (12360) - Malmö, DENMARK - JUN 25, 2011
Bottle from Markgrafen, Bamberg Dark chestnut color, clean; generous, compact head. Aroma of caramel, paper, cereals, light vanilla (not impressive). Correct body; the mild flavor of dark caramel is dry and quite poor; the bitterness is low and some comes from the roasted malt. The final is empty from any emotion. Boring.

Bottled: Chestnut brown color, small head. Aroma is malty, light alcoholic, acid touch and hints of almond. Flavor is light sweet and malty, acid notes and a citrus/herbal hop finish. Roasty. Astringent end with herbal bitterness. Quite bitter and herbal Dunkles, boring.

An orange beer with a white head. The aroma is very faintly malty. The flavor though is sweet malty with light notes of caramel combined with a hints of alcohol. Boring. I find both the appearance and the alcohol content of this beer closer to that of a bock than a dunkel.

On tap at In de Wildeman. Dark amber brown colour, fluffy off-white head. Aroma of stale hops, wet paper, grain, caramel. Flavour is toasted malts, caramel, some nuttiness, with a sharp grainy bitterness underneath. Light to medium bodied.
2.3 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 8/20 Sigmund (4280) - Tau, NORWAY - JUN 7, 2013
Shared 500 ml swingtop bottle, thanks to gunnar who brought it fresh from Bamberg. ABV is 6.0%. Amber / reddish brown colour, moderate white head. Unusual "wet wool" or "damp closet" aroma, weak caramel malts in the background. The flavour is moderately malty with a little caramel, but is not very sweet. The aroma blends in with the flavour in an unpleasant way.
