Draft. Chocolate malt and grapefruit peel aroma. Chestnut brown with moderate head. Mildly sweet chocolate malt and moderately bitter pine/grapefruit peel flavor. Okay.

Tap. Pours deep red mahogany, medium creamy tan head, huge staying power, great lacing. Aroma is roasty, a hint of chicory, pine, astray, touch of rubber. Flavor follows, light plus sweet and bitter, more roasty than IPA. Bitterness without flavor character, which is a bummer. Medium body, great mouthfeel.

2015 Knoxville Brewer’s Jam Black pour with a tan head. Roast malt aroma. Roast malt, espresso. Some hop bitterness. Ventures into Stout territory for me.

Very dark brown color, with a brownish head. Roasty aroma, with some bitterness on the mouth. Medium-to-light body. Some burnt popcorn. Slightly under-carbonated.

Keg@GABF. Dark brown/black, brown head. Hoppy, roasted aroma, phenolic, burnt popcorn. Dry, light to medium bodied, high bitterness, low CO2. Hoppy, harsh, phenolic taste, spruce, burnt notes. Unbalanced. (2014-10-02)

Pint on tap. Opaque with a lasting creamy film on top. Nose is mild mocha with a hint of citrus zest. Tastes of semi-sweet chocolate, grapefruit, resiny herb, caramel and some coffee on the finish. Almost seems like some wheat in there too. Medium body has medium-high carbonation and an intriguing balance.

Hoppy bitter bite but more a chalky bitter bite than something enjoyable. Sweet start but very average. Not super impressed not bad good average beer. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Pint at the brewery. This is one of the lightest bodied black IPA’s I’ve had and that is not a detriment at all. The malty body comes across like lighter roasted coffee with citrusy hops highlighting things. It’s clean with a dryish finish. Semi sweet cacao hints provide some balance. Very solid beer, interesting approach to the style.

On tap at brewery. Also grabbed one of their nice Black Betty T-shirts. Black pour with a nice frothy cream head. Roasty and dark bitter chocolate. Light body. Subdued hops compared to many black IPAs. Good.
