COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
This Belgian inspired wheat-wine is sure to rouse up a devilish grin. Layered in mild phenolics, wheat, pineapple, tropical citrus gum & grapefruit!

Sample at Fat Head’s on 9/2/11. Pours a clear gold/amber with a medium off-white head. Aroma of citrusy American hops, grass and Belgian esters. Spicy and grassy hop flavor with Belgian banana and clove esters before a nice grassy, citrusy and spicy hop finish.

Draft at GABF. Pours a slightly hazed gold with a fluffy white head. The nose somewhat boozy and bubblegum. Some citrusy hops are present as well. Bready malt component lingers. On tasting, it is a big beer but dry. Some phenolic sweetness, bubblegum and wheat dominating. some hops linger. Okay.

Draft… Clear yellow ale with a large, fluffy, white head. Good retention and great lacing. The aroma is mostly pineapple and clove-like phenols. Full-bodied and velvety with tickling carbonation. The flavor is all pineapple, dry wheat and red hot ethanol. Starts bittersweet and then finishes with a blast of rindy, grapefruity hop and alcohol bitterness that sticks like napalm to the side and back of my mouth and just won’t let go. Intense!

This was my main reason for coming. At least there were other options to salvage the trip because while this was perfectly fine it just didn’t grab me the way their IPAs have. Maybe it was too over the top but whatever the reason something just didn’t work.

Aroma / Appearance - The radiant orange body and clear lacing were signs of a heavy drinking beer. Candy sugar, Belgian yeast, and orange zest were fresh on the nose. Overpowering and heavy the edge was just a little much for me.

Flavor / Palate - Warm alcohol oozes across the palate followed by orange glaze, bubbly carbonation, and crisp hops. Because of the high ABV it comes across as cloying rather than enjoyable. The aftertaste reminds me of a Belgian influenced barleywine. If it weren’t so sweet or had less alcoholic bite I would have enjoyed it much better.
