Pours dark Amber with thin light tan head that laces well. Aroma of sweet dried fruit and some citrus. Flavor is soapy hops with some pine bitter resin. Some dried fruits come through, a little cherry flavor of an English barley. Finish is bitter and long. Nice mix of American and English barley wine.

FROTHINGSLOSH (6372) - GREENSBURG, Pennsylvania, USA - NOV 13, 2015
Sampled on draft at Fat Heads Saloon this beer poured an orange-red-caramel color with a medium sized creamy orange-white head that lingered and left great lacing. The aroma was sweet toffee and fruity hops. The flavor was malty, bitter and sweet with toffee, wood, tobacco, cedar, mixed hops - fruity, piney & perfumey and a bit of dark fruit. Long fruity and perfumey hop finish. Full body. Alcohol fairly well controlled. Solid.

on tap at mad mex. Barely any co2. Looks thicker foamy basic yellow. Completely flat fer sure. Taste is somewhat warm and fruity with strong volatile stuff. Less fruit and more strong ast he session continues. Not sure if this is BW or just BS. Rough, Certainly could use some aging to mellow it out. Too fresh and too uncivilized for this lager lover, does not hide alky well, as with most new BW. Difficult tosay the least.

phaleslu (9017) - Cincinnati, Ohio, USA - MAR 2, 2014
Draft at Jackie-Oís. Pours a cloudy dark orange color with a small beige head that laces the glass. Nots of grapefruit and orange citrus, tropical fruits, florals, sweet malts, leaves, and pine resin. Medium-bodied, with a resinous mouthfeel and moderate carbonation and dry finish. Drinks like a nice big double IPA.

On tap at the brewpub
One of the tap takeovers in Athens was a collaboration betwen Jackie Oís and Fat Heads. Knowing the reputation of both I did not hesitate to order myself a sample. A big barleywine is strong yet retains the distinctive hallmarks of what I have come to experience from both brewers to date.

Aroma / Appearance - A caramel red body rests below wisps of tan head. Musty malts, hops, and resiny oak used to polish an antique violin are fresh. The result is like walking through a lumber yard after a fresh spring rain.

Flavor / Palate - Strong chocolate and licorice give this a different profile than most barleywines. The bitterness is strong from the first sip. Resiny and long lasting the outcome is perhaps not the most complex. However what it lacks in depth it makes up for in quality. If not for the ABV and other samples on my tray I would have gone back for more.
