3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Draft at Jackie-Oís. Pours a cloudy dark orange color with a small beige head that laces the glass. Nots of grapefruit and orange citrus, tropical fruits, florals, sweet malts, leaves, and pine resin. Medium-bodied, with a resinous mouthfeel and moderate carbonation and dry finish. Drinks like a nice big double IPA.

4.1 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 19/20
On tap at the brewpub
One of the tap takeovers in Athens was a collaboration betwen Jackie Oís and Fat Heads. Knowing the reputation of both I did not hesitate to order myself a sample. A big barleywine is strong yet retains the distinctive hallmarks of what I have come to experience from both brewers to date.
Aroma / Appearance - A caramel red body rests below wisps of tan head. Musty malts, hops, and resiny oak used to polish an antique violin are fresh. The result is like walking through a lumber yard after a fresh spring rain.
Flavor / Palate - Strong chocolate and licorice give this a different profile than most barleywines. The bitterness is strong from the first sip. Resiny and long lasting the outcome is perhaps not the most complex. However what it lacks in depth it makes up for in quality. If not for the ABV and other samples on my tray I would have gone back for more.

On tap at Jackie Oís during the 8th Anniversary celebration on 12/13/13. Clear red pour with a thick tan head. Aroma of citrus, pine and caramel malt. Sweet malt and grassy hop flavor with pine and caramel character before a bitter grapefruit finish.

4 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Draft at Jackie Oís. Clear deep golden amber briwn color, fluffy tan head. Aroma has decent hops. Taste is bright pine. Very tasty, but more of a DIPA than a barleywine.

Tap at Jackie Oís. Pours lightly hazy orange, copper with a medium, frothy off-white head, medium retention with good lacing. Aroma is citrus and pine hops, biscuit, cracker, and honey malt, apple, pear, and apricot esters. Flavor is moderate hops and bitterness, spicy alcohol, supporting sweet malt, fruity esters and a dry finish. Full body and medium carbonation.

On tap at the 101 Beer Kitchen. Dark amber color with a fluffy white head. Aroma of fuity hops and carmel malt. Taste translates with a bitter finish, almost too much. Not bad, but not outstanding. Would purchase again.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
This one poured a dark orange to amber with a white head. Aroma was big fruity hops, caramle, and some dark fruit notes too. Flavor was similar, a nice amount of hops to almost make this a DIPA, but more of a hoppy barleywine for the most part. Big alcohol notes, but good when fresh.

3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 12/20
Hop forward barleywine with some malt notes but not so much fruit. Flavor is huge on citrus, hops, and malt. There is some dark fruits but it is overshadowed. Finish is bitter not much sweetness. Mouth feel is full and bittersweet fizz. Carbonation is average. Itís an okay barley wine but I think it is more on the IPA side than some of the dark fruits and sweet malt I have come to know and love.
