COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Our very first brew made at Fat Heads, a complex Belgian saison ale brewed with rock candy sugar exotic spices and just enough hops to tie all the flavors together with a clean hop finish.

On tap at the brewpub. Poured a very hazy copper color with a thin white head. Spicy aroma, peppery with a bite on the tongue. Thin mouthfeel and undercarbed for the style. Fairly one dimensionaly, but still a nice beer.

on tap at FH’s 20Apr2012, while i used to detest saisons they are getting better and better to me, and this one is no different.. the spice really blends well and the bubblegum, yeast flavor is melded well.. smooth sailing on this one.

Aroma: Coriander with hints of citrus. Appearance: Cloudy gold with thick, white head. Taste: Medium sweetness with light sourness and light bitterness to balance it out. Palate: Lively carbonation, creamy texture, medium body with slightly sour finish. Overall: Impressive and well crafted, but I’m left wanting more body and depth of character.

Dogbrick (4842) - Columbus, Ohio, USA - APR 1, 2011
Sample at the brewpub. The beer pours a clear golden color with a medium thin white head that evaporates steadily. Spotty lacing. Aroma of yeast and fruit along with a touch of spice. Light body with a fruity character and notes of peppery yeast and sweet malt. The finish is clean and fruity up front with a lingering yeast aftertaste. Decent overall.

JaBier (3249) - Capital City, Ohio, USA - APR 22, 2010
Sample at Fat Head’s. Clear gold pour with a thin off-white head. Nose is Belgian yeast with some banana and peppery yeast going along with a hint of berry. Flavor is honey sweetness up front with a peppery herbal yeast character and a finish that is surprisingly more dry than the beginning sweetness would have led you to expect. Pretty good.

Tap @ Cole’s. Clear gold, thin white head. Nose is spice - cardamom & clove - almost like a Unibroue anniversary beer. Some sweet malt & some medicinal cleaning product. Flavor is highly spiced - cardamom, clove. Some nice malt character. Bitterness really comes out in the fruity finish. I’m relatively sure that this bitterness is coming from spices rather than hops. Meh.

On-tap at Cole’s. Fruity bubble gum aroma, along with yeast and white pepper. No head, apple juice colour. Sweet, not cloying, very drinkable and refreshing. Average mouthfeel, carbonation right there. Lots of lace dots.Served too cold, but still very nice.

A nice saison this would have been great to take home in a growler. As the season alternates between spring and summer I find myself looking for styles like this. It is too warm for heavy imperial stouts and too cool for summer IPAs. This strikes the perfect balance.

Aroma / Appearance - The stark white head contrasted against the lazy golden body. Clear sheets of lacing slid down the sides like water down a windshield sprayed with Rain-X. The scent of white pepper, Laffy Taffy, and yeast was strong enough to shock the nose into paying full attention. Distinct and assertive it has a punch that is not over the top but certainly not mild.

Flavor / Palate - Light and peppery like seasoned angel food cake this has a smooth mouthfeel. Tasting like powered sugar has been sprinkled on top it finishes sweetly. It is hard to believe this is around 7% as it is well balanced with only a hint of alcohol. Other than the Hop Lightening which is still on tap this might be the best beer available at the moment.
