Draft sample. Poured clear dark brown color with an average brown creamy head that mostly lasted with good lacing. Moderate ground coffee and chocolate aroma. Medium to full body with a smooth texture and flat carbonation. Medium to heavy roasted coffee balanced flavor with a medium bittersweet finish of moderate to long duration. This beer would go well with a cigar.

(Growler pour) This begins with a wonderful roasted aroma, with strong coffee notes. The color is an opaque black, with a large light tan head. Creamy mouthfeel, with coffee, chocolate, and roasted notes. Mild in body, and an easy drinking beer. This is a nice solid coffee stout that I’ll be getting more of.

On tap at Fat Heads CLE on 2/4/12, Pour is into a tasting glass so no real head, however the beer itself is what you’d expect taste is nice and coffee, finishes like a cup of black coffee.. reminds me a lot of coffee bender. not as much body as i’d hope for but still really tasty and @ 5.5% its drinkable en mass.

Draft at GABF. Pours a deep, dark brown with a tan head. Nose is hugely of coffee. Nice enough nose, though somewhat generic. Cocoa and roast and perhaps a hint of vanilla? On tasting, it’s pretty dry and very coffee forward. Bitterness is pretty nice and clean. The base beer is solid, but the coffee really dominates and pushes out everything else. Pretty fine coffee beer, though.

Growler from the North Olmsted location. Pours a dark brown with a decent enough head for a beer from a growler. Aromas are airy and dark. A hint of coffee and chocolate are there as is a leathery/peaty earthiness. Flavor is pretty good-lots of coffee and chocolate, but they seem kind of washed out when compared to the imperial stouts that have jumped on the coffee bean/cocoa bandwagon. It’s very good, a bit simple and infinitely drinkable.
3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20 Cliff (394) - Avon Lake, Ohio, USA - JUL 23, 2010
Nice coffee stout. Big roasted aromas with some subtle sweetness, including vanilla. All complemeting the coffee aromas/flavors. Coffee is star, but is has some nice backing undertones of chocolate and caramel sweetness. A nice beer, just wasn’t the best to drink on a 90F day.

black with large white head. coffee nose. low bitterness with some coffee flavor but little crystal malt and little other malt flavor before a thin watery flavor. disappointing

Slightly coffee bean aroma... Tasted like the wort of a porter... Excessively sweet without much balance or coffee flavor... Poor effort.

UPDATED: JUN 30, 2010 Nitro sample at the brewpub, and a growler from the tower for home. The beer is a brownish-black color with a medium thick and foamy tan head that diminishes steadily. Rings of lacing on the glass. Roasted coffee and malt in the nose. Rich body with a strong coffee character along with flavors of dark chocolate and hops. The finish is moderately bitter roasted coffee that lingers awhile. The nitro version had a more muted coffee presence but both were good.
