on Tap at Fat Heads CLE on 2/4/2012, Pour is a nice darker looking Marzen, taste is malty and smooth, easy to drink but my palate is not refined enough to appreciate the subtle nuances of the style, I would enjoy this beer on a hot day though.

Draft… Clear amber lager with a small, fizzy, white head. The nose is a malty mélange of toffee, caramel and tropical blossoms honey. Medium-bodied with lively carbonation. The flavor is malty, toasty and caramely. Fairly crisp, bittersweet finish.

Pours golden from draft with a thin white head. Not much on the nose. Clean crisp taste with lots of carbonation. Clean finisher. Solid example of style although it’s always very difficult to articulate what separates various Marzens.

Tap sample. Poured clear copper color with an average frothy off-white head that mostly lasted with good lacing. Moderate toasted bread malt aroma. Medium body with a smooth texture and lively carbonation. Medium sweet flavor with a medium bittersweet finish of moderate duration. My expectations where met with my first FH beer.

3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20 Thorpe429 (3823) - Alexandria, Virginia, USA - APR 22, 2011
On tap at Fat Head’s.
Pours a moderate copper color with a good white head with decent retention and some mild lacing as it goes down. The nose is slightly caramelized, though is comprised mostly of some doughy bread crust. A touch of grain as well. Some sweetness. The taste adds in a bit of continental European hops and some herbal and earthy qualities, though the baking aspects continue to man the fort. Mouthfeel is light to medium with good carbonation. Drinkability is pretty good, though nothing I would go out of my way to have again.

I desperately try to never rate session beers over 3.5. Its just what I do. That said, this is a nicely rich and chewy Oktoberfest with a solid backbone. Goes down nice and smooth with a caramel & copper finish.
I cannot comment on the nose very well having quite the headcold, regrettably.
