Teutonic beauty of a beer. Unfiltered, smooth and fresh as if right out of the lagering tank. A Pilsner made with all imported German ingredients: Pilsner Malt with Perle, Hallertauer, and Spalt hops.

I hated pilsners. HATED THEM. Took my buddy to the brewpub one night who did not want to go there on the understanding that there was a new pilsner on. He loved it. I didn’t want to try it, not to be swayed from my sweet wheat beer and porter heavy regiment. Strangely enough, there was a power failure in the restaurant that night and we were all drinking beer be candlelight. He eventually wore me down and I tried I tried it. My love affair with traditional and craft pilsners began that night and I have never looked back. You can all keep your IPAs. More Gudenhoppy for me! I’ll not describe the beer to you, the only true way to judge is to try it yourself. Don’t be swayed because someone says a beer is good or bad, try it. The way craft beer is going, you’ll get to eventually, even if you can’t now. Be patient and ever willing to try new things. A real beer drinker always tries one thing...Everything.

12 oz bottle poured into pint glass. Wasn’t much of an aroma to me, very faint. Looks great however. Beautiful light golden with a thick, long-lasting fluffy head. Didn’t deliver much on the palate or taste levels to me personally.

Pint at Moerlein lagerhouse - nose is armpit sweat and straw. Sip adds citrus and borderline lemon peel. The hops do bring a nice element to the pilsner experience: a welcomed one. Nice bitter finish.

Bottle from a store that looks like it was featured in horror movies. Pours a orange amber with thin off white head. Aroma is very crisp and malty with a bit of spice thrown in. Taste of lemons and hay.

Draft at Moerlein Lager House. Pours a mostly clear bright gold with a finger of white head. Big pils malt-forward aroma, with more subtle notes of citrus, florals, grass, straw, soap, and faint herbs. The hops are more pronounced in the flavor, with notes of grass, florals, citrus, herbs, melon, pale and bready pils malts, crackers, and hay. Light-bodied, with moderate to medium carbonation and a mouthfeel with just the right amount of bitterness and malt and carbonation. I didn’t know what I was getting into, just trying a new beer. Wow, this one’s a winner. Great pils.
