Once upon a frozen evening way up north, a sweet local honey named Holly inspired our Jolly Fat Man (as only Holly can) to create this festive spiced holiday ale. We think you will enjoy his holiday creation with itís aromas and flavors of Christmas day. Sweet malt, ginger, honey and cinnamon spice. Sip this by the fire with your significant other. Who knows, maybe it will lead to a little inspiration of your own. From our Jolly Fat Man to yours, Happy Holidays.

Draft. Poured clear dark ruby color with an average frothy off-white head that was mostly lasting with excellent lacing. Moderate to heavy spice sweet aroma. Medium to full body with a smooth texture and soft carbonation. Medium to heavy balanced spice flavor with a medium to heavy sweet spice finish of moderate to long duration. Solid seasonal beer that exceeded my expectations.

Gorgeous reddish copper, great blend of ginger, honey and cinnamon. Smooth light mouthfeel, easy to drink almost too easy. Cleveland produces yet another great Christmas ale!

Aroma of dark fruit with hints of spices. Pours a clear light ruby with a full light tan head. Thereís a strong blast of cinnamon, blended with the other spices and a sweet malt backbone. The spicing lingers for a while, and compares well to the other Cleveland Christmas ales.

poured from 12oz bottle - Smooth, but this doesnít work for me. Description is intriguing, but not picking up many of the advertised elements.

12oz bottle. ABV on this 2012 season bottle is labeled 7.4%. Mostly clear darker amber red color. Thin khaki head. Leaves some decent lace. Mmm. Awesome flavors of ginger, honey, good amount of orange. Some cinnamon. Nice full body, lighter, smooth carbonation. More dry texture. Such a nice blend of spices and flavors. Itís flavorful, but not overpowering, really tasty and actually quite easy to drink, really. Nice bitter, and savory taste. Really nice winter ale.

UPDATED: NOV 19, 2013 Dark brown translucent color with a ring of an off-white head and little lacing. Aroma is much better this time around- raisins and spice with a deep fruitiness. Flavor is all spice, cinnamon and nutmeg with some caramel notes. Pretty good overall and now cheaper than Great Lakes Christmas Ale so Iím glad there are alternatives to the overhyped, overpriced local staple.
11/8/2012: (5)(3)(7)(4)(1 brown color with minimal off-white head and light lacing. Aroma smells like a wet dog but I kinda like it. Flavor has intense deep fruits with a pinch of spices on the tip of the tongue and a light sweetness at the very end.

bottle to oversized snifter. Looks solid; a semt-transparent reddish-brown with off-white head that dissipates into lacing. Smells semi-sweet and and of various spices with a hint of citrus. Tastes like it smells with an average mouthfeel. Alright.

Sample from growler at Ale Wine & Spirits in Powell on 08/02/2012. The beer pours a dark reddish-amber color with a medium off-white head that dissipates steadily. Small patches of lacing. Aroma of spices and malt. Medium body with a strong potpourri of spices up front, primarily ginger and nutmeg. Some bready malt in the background, and the spice diminishes in the course of a few drinks. The finish is sweetly spiced with a malty aftertaste. Decent overall.

on tap for their christmas in July type event, July 28th 2012, taste is nutmeg and spice but almost so much of it that it overpowers everything else and even leaves that dry too much powder mouthfeel.. not their best.
