3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Sampled on draft at 3R6P this beer poured a dark brown color with a medium sized creamy beige head that left good lacing. The aroma was sweet molasses, cherry and raisin. The flavor was sweet and tangy with a strong raisin presence, molasses, cherry, a yeasty undertone and a boozy element that complimented rather than detracted. Long finish of raisin, booze, cherry and yest. Full bodied. Tasty.

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20
Snifter on tap at Cock & Bull. Brown - red color. Good foamy khaki head, with good retention. Cinnamon and fruit cake nose. Decent lace. Dark fruit, belgian candi sugar, some spice. Bigger body, lighter carbonation, smooth texture. Sweeter taste, light bitter. ABV is hidden well. Decent Belgian strong ale, but I kind of expected more from Fat Head’s. As far as a winter seasonal goes, I much preferred Fat Head’s Holly Jolly. This doesn’t quite have the taste to back up the price and ABV (labeled on the menu as 10.5%)

3.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
Dark brown color, medium tan head with moderate lacing. Aroma and flavor were balanced with dark fruits and spices. Sweet Belgian yeasts help it out but nothing stood out and wowed me.

4.3 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
Starts off with a thick coating of brown sugar and caramel. Sweet but not over the top sweet. In the middle the dark fruits such as plums and raisins comes to front. On the back end, there is more brown sugar and caramel along with a slight hint of alcohol.

4 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Aroma: Caramel and sugary malts, hints of dried fruits, and bits of spice.
Appearance: Dark, dark amber--almost an opaque brown, with no head.
Taste: Light sweetness with hints of sourness and a distinctly Belgian finish
Palate: Full body, slick texture, soft carbonation, long finish.
Overall: This a nice winter warmer with a lot of complexity in terms of aroma, but it becomes a little one dimensional in the taste. That being said, it’s a well developed beer, and certainly something I’d stock a few growlers of for colder months.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
Sample at the Columbus Winter Beerfest on 01/14/2012: The beer is an amber-red color with a medium off-white head that recedes steadily. Small patches of lacing. Aroma of yeast and dark fruits. Medium body with a richly spiced character and notes of fruit and yeast. The finish is malty with a sweetly spiced aftertaste. Above average overall.

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
On tap, poured a deep reddish mahogany. Nice malty, spicy, yeasty aroma. Flavors are raisin, fig, rum soaked fruits. A bit of alcohol in the finish, a good warming sensation. Full mouthfeel, really coats the palate. A very nice winter belgian beer/

2.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20
UPDATED: JAN 15, 2010 Sample at Fat Heads. Clear reddish amber with a big tan head. Aroma of Barq’s red cream soda. Seriously, it’s creamy and malty with notes of strawberry, vanilla and butterscotch. Flavor is Belgian yeast and cardboard before a boozy sweet finish.
