Draft @ FH on 11/26/14 in a sample glass. Pitch black in color, head that dissolved real quick. Nose of chocolate with plenty of roasted malts and piney hops. Flavor is similar with a large amount of piney hops behind them. Nice lingering coffee bitterness with plenty lasting pine hops in the finish. Body has a creamy feel with a soft to lively carbonation. A good amount of bitterness for a stout, but overall, a really fine stout.

Pitch black just some minor reddish edges. 1 finger head that faded slowly. Milk chocolate forward with a light roast character. The taste is a different story. Loads of chocolate, loads of roast and a faint roast background. this is really exceptional but itís just a tad too sweet.

On tap in PDX. Pours a dark mahogany color with a medium white head. A big cocoa, roast and light hop nose. The flavor is quite robust fruity hops, oranges, some cocoa and dry roasted earthy malts. Lactose? Very nice interesting beer. Sort of between 2 styles.

On tap at tasting room
The best beer was a robust stout backed by a strong hop profile. If this is on draft the next time that I swing by the tasting room it will definitely be part of my flight. Make sure you get at least a two ounce pour yourself if not a full pint.

Aroma / Appearance - Black fluid liquid swirls around the glass like licorice runoff. An offwhite head adds some character. Malt, coffee, earthy truffles, and light plums give this a nice touch. It hangs around lazily.

Flavor / Palate - Malt, coffee, and anise alternate focus in a balanced presentation. Transitioning to warm plums it adds a dry finish. The bitterness is present but low key by comparison. A nice release, this one does remind me that Matt Cole can do more than just hopped up IPAs as long as he doesnít remove them completely.

Taster on tap at Barleyís in Dublin, Columbus OH. Nearly pitch black color. Finger.5 of off tan head, that retains well, and leaves thicker, kind of loose lace. Piney, citrusy hop nose in the aroma, as well as some roast malts. Moderate to bigger bitter taste. Light sweet. Good dark chocolate in the flavor. Nice zesty flavor. Medium to bigger body. Smooth, kind of crisp, lighter carbonation. Lightly dry finish. Very hoppy, certainly close to black IPA. Lightly spicy bite in the finish. A little more slick, but also a little less thick and chewy as most imperial stouts of this ABV. Very tasty, interesting stuff though. I do like hoppy dark beers. glad O made sure to try this one.

Draft to taster. Looks good; a translucent dark cola with foamy mocha head. Smells of dark malt, dark chocolate, piney hops, and roast. Tastes like it smells with a solid mouthfeel. This is more like a hoppy porter or black IPA to me, but either way, itís good beer.

Creamy. Great stout forward chocolate flavor with some citrus hops. Definitely stays true to stout flavors without crossing too close to the black ipa territory.

Pours thick dark black with a darker beige caramel colored head. The aroma brings the citrus zest with a delicious roasted malt and cacao. Flavor brings roasted malt base, a bit nutty, with light but pleasant bitter hops.

On tap at the mad mex. Beautiful pour! Black with a choco moose head that first goes rocky then fades to a thin scum. Smell is pretty good too. Wew, I was expecting a stout but what I got was impy stout down the taste buds. Not sure if this is a plain stout, sure if quite powerful, not hiding alky well. Yes, pretty stron. Nice lacing. Very little co2 inthere. Leaves a back of throat medicinal feel just liek a typical impy stout.

On tap at The Pint Room in Dublin. Aroma is toasty malt and coffee. Tastes are dark fruit, dry, roasty, citrus. Little tinny. Pretty good.
