Cask: Special - 2011 JDW Autumn Beer Festival.
Matt Cole, from Fat Head’s Brewery, has travelled to Shepherd Neame Brewery (Kent) to brew this beer especially for this Wetherspoon real-ale festival. This golden-coloured beer is based on a British recipe, yet hopped with American varieties, resulting in a tropical fruit aroma which leads you to a slightly nutty, malty flavour and a pleasing citrus hop finish

Hamilton Hall Spoons. Clear gold beer, small white head. Smooth dry palate, a little soft. No carbonation! Clean pale malt with some sweetish hops. Slightly sherbetty citrus. All pretty subtle. Dry finish with minerals.

Cask at Crosse Keys, JDW, London. Pours clear honey-gold with a faint head. Bready straw aroma. Medium sweet flavor, dough, light toast, bit of earth and hay. Light to medium bodied with fine carbonation. Sweet, sugary finish, light woody citrus bitters. Decent.

Cask handpull at Baker Street Spoons. Pale gold slight haze lasting white head. Its got a lemon sherbert element to it. But it dies very quickly in the mouth. Yes something not quite right about this. The initial taste is ok but it fades into thin newspaper. Its kind of ok and if brewed a few more times they may get the recipe right but as a one off its a little bit thin in the mouth. Some lemon curd.

Cask conditioned at a Wetherspoons. Gold with white head. Thinnish, light golden ale, really lacks some depth. Hunting it was possible to discover some citric notes and a little caramel, but overall lacks interest.

Cask, Highcross, Leicester. Golden with an off-white head. Aromas are mixed tropical fruit with dominant pineapple. Biscuit malts with zesty citrus and soft spices. Some buttery notes with woody aspects. Flavours are crisp citrus with peppery, pithy grapefruit bitterness. Sweet tropical fruit with a nice yeasty, soft palate. Dry on the aftertaste. Very drinkable.

Cask conditioned Handpump High Cross Leicester. A light golden beer with a white head. Slight in the nose. Good citrus flavours but with a UK like creaminess. A tad chewy at times but the hops do shine after a while with Cascade flavours to the fore. A tail of two quarters really in this half pint as it certainly picked up, with even some spicy hop entering the aroma.

Hoppy craft brew but one with a varied mix of fruits of its pleasant taste.

Cask-conditioned at the Commercial Rooms (JDW), Bristol 4/10/2011. Golden with a slight white head. Fruity aroma with some grassy hops. Flavour had solid, cereal malts with contrasting citrus fruit and dry finish.

Cask at the Old Manor (JDW), Bracknell. Slightly hazy pale amber in colour with a white head; lemony aroma; clean citrus start then some gently bitter hops giving a crisp finish. A light, refreshing, summery ale - but rather ordinary.
