Editor’s Note: Contract brewed for Stienhaus Brewing Co. / Trader Joe’s by August Schell but more recently by River Trent Brewing in Ukiah, CA; which is assumed to be Mendocino Brewing as River Trent Brewing is not a true entity.

Got this at Trader Joe's - is this contract brewed for them? Anyway, golden bodied, small head with multi-sized bubbles, great lacing. Taste was thick and malty sweet - almost reminded me of a maibock in character. On the other hand, the 7.1% alcohol shows up stronger as it warms, making me think of a typical 40 of malt liquor. Not too bad, actually.

Bottle. I would swear they've changed the recipe to this one over the last few years. The beer is fairly non-descript. A few hops add to the overall flavor, but it's a little thin and doesn't stand out. We've included this in 2 blind beer tastings. years ago it finished fairly well (tied with Sierra Nevada), but the last time it finished near the bottom.

Liked the name of the beer. Fat weasel drank a little darker than the average amber. It had ssome fruity flavors in the aroma and taste. Fat weasel is an average brew.

Golden amber color with a moderate white head. Malty aroma with taffy, sweet corn and flowers. Sweet malt flavor, with peach and a light hoppiness - not quite balanced. Medium body with little to no carbonation.

Weak head with a weak lacing. Nice golden yellow color and a nice level of carbonation. Nice touch of crisp bite to the flavor that serves as a good quencher. Aftertaste is a back of the throat touch of hops. A pretty good, drinkable brew!

Nose has a light malt sweetness with faint fruity overtones, covered by tangy hop vapors...Color is a nice bronze with a healthy rocky off-white head---very attractive...Flavor features a sharp hop profile, magnified by moderate carbonation. Finish has a touch of sourdough tang and is slightly dry...The flavor balance is not quite simpatico, but there are distinct malt and hop constituents. Body is quite adequate. Overall this is quite drinkable, but could use more richness and roundness to its flavor posture.

Ewwwww, not very good, glad i only paid 68 cents for this bottle, but at least its like its american counterparts @ 7.1% ABV in its attempt to get the user drunk enough that he/she wont taste this. The Fat Weasel poured a light amber color but was totally honey gold in the light with a thin foamy white head. Medium to active carbonation level. The aroma had hints of banana, malt, grains, cloves, honey and hoppiness. The taste is where it truly got revolting..completely unpleasant and hard to drink in mass quantities. A strange thinness leads way to a grapefruity, banana, clovey, heavy alcohol (dude its 7.1%...why the hell am i tasting alcohol???) and an astringent apricot syrupiness....very gross!!!! Aside from a moderate aroma and a good buzz, i dont recommend this to anyone. Very unnatural sweetnesses and bittering sourness....im confused!!!

Not much head when poured, but the texture was very creamy and with a little swirling, a head formed and lasted till the last swig. Golden color. Very well balanced. Nothing stood out but the result was satisfying.
