3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20 NicerInPerson (337) - North of Raleigh, North Carolina, USA - JUN 8, 2007
The aroma was estery and fruity with a strong presence of candy and caramel. Lightly spicy and grassy with a bit of a citrus note to boot. In the glass the beer was golden (nothing amber about it) with a white and low, yet persistent and tight bubbled head which lasted well to lace the glass. The flavor was nice with a light caramel sweetness and a decent level of citrusy and grassy bittering to keep the malt in check. The balance was very good and made for a nice flavor combination. The finish was dry with lasting impressions of fruit and hops into the aftertaste and beyond. The body was medium with a moderate level of carbonation and a creamy texture. A nice, somewhat fruity, ale with enough to keep me interested. At TJ pricing this one might have to see the fridge more often. 12 ounce bottle. The picture is correct, but the beer says it was made by Steinhaus Brewing Co in New Ulm, MN.
3.5 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 Powertrip (844) - Calgary, Alberta, CANADA - SEP 13, 2010
Single bottle from a Trader Joe’s in San Diego. Nose: Rye bread, touch of peanut butter, marzipan, oat. Rich nose. Taste: Lots of rye and pumpernickel toast, middle full of roast malt leading to a sugary finish. Tries to be sophistocated and has a great aroma. Doesn’t follow through in taste but by no means a throw-away craft.

3.5 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 tpatrickr (10) - Richmond, Virginia, USA - OCT 11, 2009
Try this one again. I had it a few years ago, and was not impressed. in October 2009, after some time, I find the head more persistant, still malty, but not very aromatic. On the palate, however, this beer seems more robustly flavouful than I remember. Strongly malty on the palate with detectable alcohol, but also detecatble hops. Worth re-visiting.

Pours bright amber with a touch of haze under a large head that leaves a sticky, giraffe-back lacing as it falls. From the first whiffs of the aroma, I’m convinced I’m going to enjoy this brew. Raisiny cookie-dough malts over dry wheat followed by lemongrass hops that strive to be citric. As it warms, some fat alcohol notes weasel in (oh... I get it now). Flavor turns out a little disappointing, kinda tasting like a weak Dunkel crossed with a Bohemian Pilsener. Non-descript sweet malts precede an herbal, grassy bitterness, all the while injected with some alcohol notes that further thin the flavors. Not bad and quite the little whopper at 7.1%. I’d buy again for that reason alone.

12 oz bottle. I was actually pretty surpised. This was not bad. The aroma didn’t give me much clue as to the flavor, but that flavor was decent. Sweet malts and not much hops made it a bit different from any amber I have had. I liked it.

It’s pretty good, not great, but quite good. A very drinkable beer that will neither impress you with its character nor offend you with its foulness. A mite thin, though it has a nice maltiness to it with just a touch of sweetness. One of the better $4.99/six beers around, I’d guess, but nothing phenomenal.
3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 Darkover (1449) - Columbus, Ohio, USA - SEP 19, 2004
Orange color with a small beige head. Aroma of sweet caramel malt. Flavor is very unusual, its pretty tangy with notes of caramel and honey.

For $3.99 a six pack at Trader joes and 7.1% alcohol, this is much better drinking than bud or the like.

12oz bottle. Aroma zesty, sour, spices and wheat. Gold body with white head. Flavor has zesty sour lemon bitterness and some spices noticable. Leaves a sour spicey aftertaste on the palate. This would be better suited witha pizza rather than sampling it alone with out something to eat.
