2.7 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20 shigadeyo (2399) - Harrison, USA - JAN 11, 2007
Fat Weasel Ale is marigold yellow in color with a small ivory head. It is clear with a generous amount of lively carbonation. The aroma is malty with undertones of orange, pear, and apple cider. A hint of the alcohol is also present in the aroma. The flavor is also brown sugar and modestly sweet. It also has the same undertones citrus, pear, and apples that were in the aroma. The alcohol (7.1% ABV) also also makes itself known, but isn’t too overstated or astrigent (until the beer gets really warm!). The finish is dry, slightly acidic, and moderately bitter (grassy and floral hop flavors). The body of the beer is on the lighter side (light to medium light), but fits well with the flavors. It isn’t overly carbonated, so it’s decent on the palate as well. Overall I am satisfied with this brew for the price. I had been wanting to try some of the Trader Joe’s "store brand" beer for awhile now to see if it was anygood. It isn’t the best stuff out there, but for the low price and alcohol content, I think that this beer is better than some of the alternatives!
12 oz bottle from Trader Joe’s. Brewed and bottled by Steinhaus Brewing Co., New ulm, MN.
2.3 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 9/20 Scrapersnbeer (461) - Boston, Massachusetts, USA - MAY 25, 2012
Fat Weasel? I couldn’t resist picking one up. Malty lagered aroma with some grass. Also looks like a well carbonated golden lager. The beer is bitter in the way a bitter hard candy is: profound but undefined. It isn’t hoppy, all the while stinging of alcohol. Light bodied, but not quaffable. Mine cost one dollar and seventeen cents and is labeled as River Trent Brewing, Ukiah CA, which seems to be a contract front for Trader Joe’s.
3.4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 Chudwick (564) - Taylor Mill (KY), FRANCE - MAY 8, 2012
12oz bottle - pours clear caramel with white head. Nose is grassy with caramel and some floral hops. Flavor adds citrus hops with a malty base. Pretty tasty. taste is more bitter than sweet. Noticeable alcoholic burn on the palate. tastes a little like port. Somewhat unique but probably won’t have another.
2.9 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20 radagast83 (2408) - Fairfax, Virginia, USA - APR 3, 2012
12oz bottle. Poured a golden color, foamy white head. Aroma was malts, yeast. Flavor was malts, yeast notes. If ABV here is to be believed, this may be one of the only reasons to pick it up - cheap and it may get you drunk.
2.2 AROMA 3/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 8/20 maxwelldeux (328) - Raleigh, North Carolina, USA - MAR 24, 2012
This one is bitter, without being hoppy. It’s got a nice golden color, but that’s its best quality. Little smell or head, I would be only fat weasels would like it.
2.9 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20 nick76 (3591) - Tampa, Florida, USA - MAR 12, 2012
The aroma is nutty, metallic, yeasty, and phenolic with bread like malts. The appearance is golden with an amber hue and medium head. The taste is like the aroma with a slight bitter bite. The palate is average. Overall a drinkable beer but is a bit strange.

Sampled in a 12oz bottle. A pretty decent ale. Hops are quality. A good six pack brew.

12 ounce bottle from Trader Joe’s. Pours a darker gold with a small white head. Aroma of yeast and alcohol. Taste is grain, malt, alcohol, and yeast. Something strange here.

A glass handed to me by my friends husband because he wanted to share a good beer with me. Honey and corn esthery sweetness. Betyter than a budweiser but not by far.
2.1 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 3/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 7/20 BVery (2558) - Burnsville, Minnesota, USA - DEC 8, 2011
Bottle. Slightly hazy orange pour with a white head. Aroma is kind of a funky sweet caramel - not great. Medium palate. Taste is caramel malt, with an odd metallic finish. Not good.
1.8 AROMA 2/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 7/20 minjaben (4) - Palo Alto, California, USA - NOV 22, 2011 does not count
Not very good, but not terrible either.
Sweet, sweaty, sort of appley nose, and sort of a hazy lighter color.
Taste is also somewhat sweet and appley with not too much going on in the body. Nice moderately thick texture, but the finish is really overly strong and the alcohol sticks out like a sore thumb. Not well balanced at all. Slight piney hops on the initial finish, and a lingering sweetness that is not great but not bad either.
The alcohol-y finish directly after swallowing kills it for me though; would probably not buy again.
