4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
Nice malt forward double IPA. Bitter as it should be, but doesn't impede drinkability. Not getting oatmeal per se, but assuming it's coming in from the malt bill.

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
The alcohol on this one is up to 9%.
Arrives from the tap with a light tan, creamy textured, head. The beer is a hazed, honey and gold tinged color. The aroma smells like pure American hops; lots of lychee and guava that are backed by supporting candied tangelo zest, peach concentrate, and perhaps a hint of noticeable malt / grain character that supplies bits of cracker like pale malt, and maybe some sun-toasted hay notes.
The texture has a certainly fullness to it that might be Oat derived, and actually it is quite light and quaffable for a beer of this strength. There is actually a huge grapefruit character in the finish that really lingers on the palate; the most grapefruit like beer I have had in quite some time actually. Up front there is lots of tangelo zest character, ripe tangerine notes, a biting citrus oil character, floral citrus blossom notes, and really just a syrupy concentrated citrus character that lingers from beginning to end of each sip. There is a solid biting character to this beer, it is bitter, but a lot of the peppery bit comes from an essential citrus oil like character.
Definitely a nice Double IPA; I really like the juicy hop character that this has, and the malt character is barely noticeable, but really keeps the juicy hop character afloat in the flavor. I can’t say that the oatmeal contributes much here, not really to the flavor, but perhaps just a bit to the texture, with just a bit of viscosity to it. A great way to finish off my first visit to this brewery.

4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 16/20
UPDATED: DEC 29, 2013 Growler fill for $19. My brother picked this up at the brewpub for me as a Christmas present. Pours a honeycomb nectar orange with which a sudsy white ringed head stood atop. Aromas of sourdough, white wheat, cinnamon sticks, piney hops, bay leafs, sea salt, tangerine peel, cashew butter, and spruce bark. Tastes the same with the addition of peanuts, hop oil, rice flour, Vienna malt, and graham crackers by swallow. Must be updated. Wonderful.

Draft sample. Clear, dark yellow color with a white ring. Big sweet aroma witha hint of grapefruit pith. Flavor is really smooth/mellow. Was curious about oatmeal with an IPA but it works nicely.

4.2 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Nice golden pour with a crisp white head. Aroma of tropical fruits, citrus, pine, lots of good hoppy character. Taste is very clean and exceptionally easy going for a 9% beer, very well rounded nice hope character that has bite but doesn’t overpower has a lingering dry finish. Outstanding stuff.

Bright orange pour with no haze and soft white head. Aroma is a truckload of citrus and some pine. Flavor is big citrusy hops, lemon bars, average bitterness. This is a winner

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Growler from Flanny’s. Sweet nose of wet orange and grapefruit interspersed with a slight hoppiness. Pours a bright semi-hazy orange with a one-finger off-white head. Citrus is the initial predominant flavor with a medium bitterness that is tempered by a light doughy note. The oatmeal becomes more apparent midway through the glass, but it nicely complements the hops, which turn more sweet than bitter with each sip. Very smooth texture; slightly dry finish. Another winner from Fate.

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 15/20
Growler pours up crystal clear deep gold and with a light tan head. The aroma offers up various bitter citrus notes as well as a bit of biscuit to slightly roasted malts. The taste lays out grapefruit and tangerine like citrus hop bitterness as well as resiny hop notes that lean toward pine sap. It has a pleasing richness, smoothness and depth that I can really sink my teeth into. About midway I get a mild malt roastiness of sorts that sort of muddles the experience some. Into the finish and after taste are pleasing citrus hop goodness that are both resiny and bitter as well as sweet malt nuanced juiciness. Yep, pretty darn nice.
