Sample at the brewery. Golden yellow with a thin ring of foam. Smells like a hot spicy pretzel. I almost can’t taste the cream ale under the chile flavour, but it seems oddly balanced. Nicely done gimmick, and definitely worth trying.

Draft at the source. Slightly hazy yellow color, thick white head with good retention and solid lacing. Aroma of burning straw, smoking pepper. Taste is charred pepper skin and burning hay, decent hay. Delicious.

Taster. Pale gold, white head. A little heat on the nose... The chile works well to give this beer some needed body and flavor!!!

Very well done. Smoke and chili on the nose, nice creamy malt with distinctive chili taste - present but pleasant. Nice long balanced finish.

Draught at Fate South, 12/28/15.
Clear, bright golden body shows good carbonation and a small, white, moderately-well-retained head.
HUGE chile nose is delightfully authentic, tasteful and well-supported by the fresh house yeast and dry, but apparent malt backing. Smells exactly like freshly roasted green hatch chiles and is powerfully sniffable.
Flavor follows, showing little/no heat, as is the case with these chiles. Fleshy, gently roasted pepper character is backed by a zesty, mostly tight carbonation and crisp, grainy malt texture, with appropriate wateriness allowing high drinkability and no flaw or alcohol. Great attenuation, as with all of their beers and good extraction/mashing leading to a malty, enjoyably soft texture.

draft, i really like chilli beers, this one has great chili flavor on a blank canvas of a base beer. Lots chilli falvor with light heat. Actually one of the first spicy beers i want more of.

Sampled at GABF 2014. Pours a clear golden body with white lacing. Aroma is strong assertive chiles and a vague sweetness beneath. Mouthfeel is nice - medium-bodied, creamy with notes of chiles, light vanilla, rounded malt character and additional sweetness.

Light yellow pour with small white head. Aroma of pale malts and chilis. Taste of pale malts, grassy hops and slight chili heat. Nice and crisp and refreshing, nicely carbonated, simple beer that really works, nicely balanced. Dry peppery finish.

phaleslu (9305) - Cincinnati, Ohio, USA - MAR 29, 2014
Draft in a sampler at the brewpub. Pours a clear, pale gold with a small white head. There’s a huge hatch chile character in this, with pale malts, grass, straw, and some faint sweetness. But the chiles give it a vegetal character, kind of earthy, and not overly spicy. It strangely balances the beer. Light-bodied, with moderate carbonation and a dry, vegetal, spicy mouthfeel. Pretty good for a cream ale.
