A unique twist on an appellation from Germany, Kölsch Style Ale is light, clean and crisp with a dry finish. It has sessionable malt and hop character and a touch of sweetness. Its fresh flavor comes from the German Pils malt and noble hops and the body glows a brilliant, gold color. This beer is excellent year-round but especially great in the summertime. Hops: Hallertau, Millenium

16 oz can pours a hazy yellow with hardly any head. Watermelon and acetaldehyde in the flavor and aroma. Without the watermelon undertones, this beer would be close to a drain pour. Green apples and watermelon do not go together very well.

16 Oz can. Pours pale buttercup yellow and slightly hazy, small bubbles and minimal head. Aroma is sweet and earthy and flavor is crisp, gently sweet with a mild watermelon flavor. Very refreshing summer beverage but not very beer.

Sampled at the brewery. Clear golden with an almost white layer. A grassy malty aroma. Some grassy and noble hops in here. Soft fruit and pale malts. Light drinking. A little honey in the finish. Pleasant.

On tap at the brewery. Pale golden and pretty clear appearance with a white head. Mild aroma of light malts, toasted grains, light fruit, and light noble hops. Similar flavor, crisp and clean with light spicy hop bitterness and light sweetness. Light bodied with a dry finish.

Touch fruity, smells like a nontraditional hop. Crisp hoppy taste, subtle grassy hop note and clean malt. Not sure it’s a kolsch but it’s a nice beer, clean and dry. Very pale.

Straw hay color. Very light . Like a cheap beer but absolutely refined. Very little head.

Tap. Pours clear yellow white white head. Smells very lagerish, slightly spicy. Has a very light body, easy-drinking, nice. Nothing great, just okay.

Draft. Here is the unadulterated Kolsch from Fate. No watermelon or coffee of mint or dingleberries. Very mild aroma of white crackers / pale malt and creamed corn / DMS with raw and green hop expression. Sourish malt, noticeably dirty phenols and esters (concrete mix, soot and pepper, all very mild). Light body, watery, thin, limp texture, low acid, medium to low bitterness. Has a lot of noticeable flaws in the aroma that seem well-covered in the flavored editions.

On tap @ Fate. Straw pour with a white head. Really grainy nose. Some grass and herbal hops. Nice sweet malt, a bit corny, though. Flavors of grain, grass, and a bit of herbs. Apple, slight lemon peel, and biscuit. Good sweetness and mild bitterness.
