COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
An Americanized version of a Foreign Extra Stout. It has a strong coffee-like roasted barley flavor and prominent roasted malt aroma. The American citrus hops lead to a brightness on the palate with a moderately dry finish. This rich stout pairs well with hearty fare like steak, BBQ and chocolate desserts.

Sampled at the brewery. Black with a tiny bit of red. A thick tan head. A nice coffee aroma. That is tasted with chocolate. Rich feel. A nice hop profile is just right. Tasty stuff.

Draft. Roast-forward highly-hopped American stout creeping into Black IPA territory with its grassy cannabis and pine resin hop profile. Highly carbonated, apparent sweetness is medium, bitterness is high, acidity may be making carbonation seem high and rough. Peppercorn spice and tropical fruit playing in a bath of black malt and roast, and a little bit of cheese rind mustiness that I typically pick up in Black IPA / hoppy stout. One of the better beers to come out of Fate: highly bitter and roast-heavy but fits well within the style characteristics and seems mostly clean to me, but I don’t find it that interesting and the style is not something I regularly enjoy.

Draft at brewpub. Pours black with a khaki head. Doesn’t leave much lacing. Big roasted malt on the nose. Lots of chocolate Roast on the tongue. Lingers a bit in the finish. Solid.

Black with a thin foamy khaki head. Aroma is really dark and roasty with a wee bit of chocolaty coffee underneath all that roastiness. Flavor is smooth and chocolaty and roasty but also has a solid undertone of herbal hoppiness, with a certain coffee and roasty finish. But alongside all that roastiness is a chocolaty sweetness. It’s darn good.
