Faultline Belgian Abbey

COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
This style of beer was first brewed and made famous by Catholic Monks in Belgium. The order of monks, Cistercians, was founded as a response to the Benedictine order becoming to liberal. In addition to beer, they also produce bread and cheese which they consume. The order is based on self-reliance and discipline. Brothers are encouraged to take an extensive vow of silence. The monks brew three major different types of beer; Simple; Dubble; Tripel. "Simple" is the beer the monks consume the most and is not sold commercially. Their beer is known as "Trappist" beer, and due to respect to the order, they are the only ones who use the name. There are five remaining monasteries in Belgium, and one in Holland, that brew their own beer. The beer has the distinctly Belgian spicy aroma and flavor. The beer is unfiltered and reddish brown in color. The flavors in this beer are rich, but not overpowering. Faultline Brewing Company brews the Belgian Abby in the Fall and Winter months.
