FBC Best Bitter uses all English hops. It is served via a nitrogen dispense system which creates a firm head of smaller bubbles. This allows us to serve the beer with a lower amount of CO2 and thus the flavor of the beer is not dominated by gas tingle on the tongue.

Tap. Pours clear deep amber with a medium creamy off white head that dissipates slowly with nice lacing. Aroma is faint caramel, cardboard. Flavor is the same, light sweet, light bitter. Medium body, creamy.

Backlog purge. On tap at the inaugural Hop N Barley festival in Scotts Valley. Just super boring brewpub fare. Mealy malty with tea-like hoppiness. Yawn.

Tap - after the nitro settled, average size thick creamy head, very nice dark amber color, nice balanced aroma and flavor with sweet malt, fair hops, some mild nutty flavor, creamy texture

Didnt smell much aroma it was a medium amber color that was crystal clear. Had a slight sweet/bitter taste that reminded me of an irish red. It was very smooth. Overall not bad

Draft. An amber beer with a dense nitro head in an orangey shade. The aroma has light notes of hops and caramel. The flavor is sweet with notes of malt and caramel as well as a light note of hops.

Sample at the brewpub on 8/10/10. Clear amber pour with a thick tan nitro head. Typical nose for the style with dank malt, caramel and a bit of fruitiness. Flavor starts with caramel malt and a bit of diacetyl before an earthy hop finish.

Nitro long lasting lil bubbles. Very caramel-y taste. Some light brown sugar and molasses. More sweet flavors than I expected, also suprised it wasnít rated higher than it is. Not that itís a good bitter but rather itís got hints of barleywine note I said hints as in justbarely.

Served with nitrogen from a stout faucet at the brewpub. I was here to watch the US/Slovenia World Cup game, and barely pulled my mind away from the game enough to blurt out a name of a beer to the waiter when he came to our table. If I had noticed that this was a nitro beer, I definitely would have gone for another of their selections, but I couldnít be bothered to look into that given the circumstances. Luckily the game ended before I finished my pint, so I was able to put some concentration into a decent rate. Overall, this is a solid take on the style of strong bitter (not best, which it is in reality too high in gravity to be) that you see sent over the pond in nitro kegs, albeit fresher (obviously) and significantly hoppier overall, though not to the point of feeling obviously American. Itís actually hard to say on that last point though, as those beers might be this hoppy on cask local to their respective breweries. The color is a medium-light amber with good clarity, topped by the typical creamy nitrogen-induced cap of foam that lasts until you take the last sip. I donít know if Iíll ever get used to that... The aroma is predictable dull, given the nitro cap that always seems to kill aromatics, though there is a mild nutty maltiness that manages to come through. The flavor hits you up front with sweet, nutty malt and a touch of caramel. There is a nice english hop flavor that balances well and wraps it all up in a snappy, tangy finish and firm bitterness. Medium bodied with smooth, lower carbonation that almost goes without saying. This would definitely be a great esb on cask, but the nitro pretty much limits it in its current state. Hoppy, yet well balanced and malty at the same time.
