From tap at the brewpub. Pours dark brown to black with a small, tan and creamy head. Hardroasted dark malt aroma. Sweet malt flavoured, light roasted and slight toffee. Smooth malty and subdued roasted finish.

Draft. A black beer with a red shine under a brown head. The aroma has notes of roasted malt, wort, and chocolate. The flavor is sweet with notes of roasted malt lending it a slight acidity, combined with a note of chocolate, leading to a dry and roasted finish.

On tap at the brewpub (aka Black River Stout). Pours opaque black with a decent tan head and a chocolate and treacle aroma. There is a dark malt flavor that is a bit too thin for a stout. However, a decent brew.

Black with a creamy off white head. Chocolate caramel and citrus hops aroma. Taste of chocolate citrus slight chalkiness and a mildly tart and bitter finish.

Sample at the brewpub on 8/10/10. Black pour with a thick tan nitro head. Roasty aroma with some chocolate and a bit of metal. Roasty and chocolatey flavor with a bitter dark chocolate finish.

UPDATED: MAR 6, 2013 Nitrogen tap. Pours deep black with a medium creamy brown head that laces well. Aroma is classical roasted malt, coffee, with notes of chocolate. Flavor is medium sweet roasted malt and chocolate. No real bitterness for me.

Tap. Solid black. Roasted and burnt malts. Rich but not thick. A balanced aroma but not a complicated flavor.

Draught at the brewpub. Black with a lasting nitro head. Dry and ashy on the nose, a little like french roast coffee. Dry flavor, quite roasty, a touch ashy, and tangy in the finish. Nice bitter chocolate character. Light bodied but with a surprisingly lively body considering the ubiquitous nitro conditioning. A definitely a solid dry stout that still presents well on nitro.
