Pours a beautiful amber-mohagony color, with a very froth medium sized head, still coating the glass with thick lacing after collapsing. Smells of wood bark, wrapped up by a flowery quality and marzipan, supported by a note of toffee. Bread defined malts blend harmonious into the profound wood bark quality, with a syrupy sweet note on top, creating a very fulfilling nose. Drinks dangerously easy, with a soft, medium carbonation, while producing enough body to hide the alcohol perfectly, instead the beer produces a pleasant warmth after the swallow. Taste mirrors the nose, by producing an intriguing mixture between earthy malts and luscious toffee, enhanced by a pleasant wooden note. The beers sweetness turns stronger by evoking molasses, balanced by walnut nutshells covered in the earthy taste foundation. Finishes with a soft carbonation, molasses and a soft aqueous note, while the beers earthiness mellows the overall sweetness. Very rustic, versatile beer, still including the classic Doppelbock sweetness, completed by a very smooth, soft mouthfeel.

Aroma of fruitbread, dates and toffee malt. Umber color brown, still body. Sweet brown sugar taste, a little fruity and slightly sourish. Medium cloy on the body, sticks around just long enough that you don’t have to kick it out. Nice for a lighter doppel.

Recht klassischer Bock mit einer ebenso klassischen Muffigkeit, etwas an Rosinen und Malz im Hintergrund. Trinkbar, recht alkoholisiert im Abgang und mit einer suessen Seele ausgestattet. Voll ok.

Bottle from IxI Getränkemarkt in Frankfurt. The beer has got a deep dark brown colour with a small head and medium body. Aroma of malt, dark bread and dark fruits. Taste of malt, hops, bread, barley, woods, roast and cake. Malty-fruity finish. Solid in its style, yet nothing I really enjoyed.

Hey, it looks like I can log my 5000th beer rating on Christmas day - HOW FORTUITOUS - what do I have on hand that I haven’t rated? - some cheap German Doppelbock with middling ratings? - FUCK IT; WE’LL DO IT LIVE - this beer is alright - smells kind of metallic, with notes of raisin and caramel - flavor is better - creamy texture - flavors of dark bread, raisin, toffee - slightly tart finish - meh - at least I’m at 5000 now - achievement unlocked - merry effing Christmas.

Rating from a bottle of Miltenberger Doppelbock: The swing-top bottle opened with a resounding pop. I expected a bigger head than the slender ecru one that capped the reddish golden brown body. Alas. The aroma is bready with a hefty dollop of toffee and a dab of caramel. The flavor is much the same, but not cloying sweet as the nose suggested. Just okay, but it pairs well with chocolate chip cookies.
