3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 12/20 FatPhil (6207) - Tallinn, - APR 24, 2011
500ml bottle (Helsinki Beer Festival 2011)
Fairly middle-of-the-road hefe in all aspects. The wheaty grains were prominant but came over more as weetabix than a typical hefe. Nothing wrong with it though - easy go-to beer.

50cl bottle at the Burgstadt Ziemann plant reception room after touring the plant where the Death Star was made. Hazy gold color with a big, fizzy white head. Nicely balanced weizen aromatics with a touch of dull, oxidized character. A subsequent bottle check showed that is was nearing its best-by date. The flavor was pretty solid but nothing out of the ordinary and the body was middle of the road and medium-sweet with ample carbonation. Later at dinner, our prof said it was his favorite weizen, but I was too busy drinking the delicious Faust Doppelbock to try this again on tap. You win some and you lose some...

Interesting little beer if only because of its rarity and reasonable quality. Poured with a light fine head and a bit of lace. Color is a pale hazy amber. The sensory qualities are milder than other Bavarian Hefe Weizens that I’ve had - that is in aroma, color, body, and flavor. Nothing bad, but not very distinguished. Ok finish.

Medium, creamy body with good wheat malt flavor, and some spicy clove notes with a slight hint of bananna. Sweet, balanced creamy inish, with a good aftertaste. A quality german weiss.

Bügelverschlußflasche: Pale golden, slightly hazy with a small, but "rocky" dirty white head; sweetish fruity nose (bananas and cloves) with a tart and "oaky" touch; mild sweetish-bitter flavour, a bit sourish, too; a light acidity is detectable in the sweetish-fruity finish, followed by an almost bitter aftertaste. Unspectacular, but rather well crafted.........
