Perhaps it was unfair to have this beer right after enjoying a Gulden Draak, so by comparison,,,,,,,,well, you can’t....

Canned. Strange aroma - sweet and alcohol :). Interesting balance. But at all - nothing special in taste. Try it and forget..

Poured from 500mL can. Pale clear yellow with minimal white head. Banana aroma on the pour, mild corn and yeast nose. Mild flavour of corn and yeast, with some alcohol flavour. Nice body for a lager, not watery.

2.5 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 10/20
Pours a pale gold with a large white head, quickly dissipating. The aroma is actually not purtrid, pale malts and fusel alcohol with some okay hop presence. Almost comes off as a bit fruity as I sometimes get from these types of beer. Flavour is surprisingly drinkable for the abv. Starts out with sweet malty, possibly adjuncty aspects, the same odd indistinct fruityness, followed by a significant ’bite’ from the sharp, peppery hops and the booze. Finishes out decently on the palate, not too harsh, though you know what you’re drinking. This is actually quite passable, and for what it’s worth I enjoyed it far more than the other ’Faxe Strong’ (not the 10% one but the 8.4%).

I’d like to kick off my beer review extravaganza with the ‘Faxe Royal Strong,’ 8% heavyweight brewed in Denmark. First, it has a very strong taste. In fact, it really feels like an 8% beer, so I don’t recommend it if you just want your night to go tits up fast. More than two or three of these will really put you on the floor. Not on the floor in a good way, but on the floor like you’ve been kicked in the stomach by Mr Potato head’s cement foot. It’s flat, too, with very little buzz to keep you awake.

2.5 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 9/20
Sharp, slightly hoppy aroma. Golden yellow colour with white head. Taste is slightly sweet and fruity, balanced with hops, not a lot of flavour, but okay for a lager. abv well masked.
