boFNjackson (482), Portland, Oregon, USA May 5, 2008 Tap @ Fearless... Poured brown with a beige head. Aroma of toasted barley-malt and smoked nuts. Foamy palate, nice complexity for the brown style, lots of smoked flavors that fit nicely with the malt and hops and coffee characters. Finished with more smoked flavor and biscuit hops. Brown ales could be pretty boring, this one steps up to the plate.
DA (2280), Portland, Oregon City, Oregon, USA Apr 27, 2008 On tap at the PDX Green Dragon. This didn’t taste much like a brown ale, well not really at all, more like a coffee English porter. Toasted roasty malts, big coffee character, fresh sort of ground beans added to the beer after boil kinda taste. Smooth with a long bitter finish. I liked that this wasn’t like a brown ale, had a unique character, easy to drink with a fresh coffee bite to it. The hops were a bit much for the amount of coffee flavor, left it feeling a bit thin at times.
