3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 riversideAK (4566) - Shoreline, USA - AUG 15, 2011
Nose of pale medium sweet malts, some dank, pepper, pine, vegetable notes, and light citrus. Interesting. Pours golden, somewhat hazy and with very little head. The flavor is pale ale malts - lightly sweet, a little bread/grain, some residual sugar followed by pepper, dank, vegetal hop notes. Somewhat medium bitter. Kind of a muddled finish. An interesting beer.
3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20 Gooney (297) - Portland, Oregon, USA - MAY 10, 2012
16 oz can from New Seasons - Orange with a white foam head. Sticks to the side of the glass. Not nearly has hoppy as I’d expect from an Imperial, and the alcohol is not any higher than many regular IPAs. Got a slight hint of a banana flavor. And butterscotch? Not a bad beer. I’ll certainly enjoy finishing it. Nothing I would go buy a keg of, though.
2.4 AROMA 3/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 10/20 tpb3jd (36) - University Place, Washington, USA - APR 21, 2012
In a can from Tacoma World Pipe & Beers, really weak resin scent, with a hint of cereal and metal (as one will sometimes get from cans), but not much citrus or floral overtones that I like in IIPAs. Cloudy amber orange color with a frothy head. Light sweetness, medium bitterness, lightly sour, but without a strong hop dominance that one should expect from an IIPA. I don’t taste much in the way of dankness (which I crave from IIPAs).
3.2 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20 BK7 (302) - Turner, Oregon, USA - APR 20, 2012
Tallboy can. Not a bad tasting beer but not what I was expecting for a Double IPA. Mild bitterness throughout with light malty sweetness in the background. A bit oily. Finish has a taste of oranges and a long lasting bitterness. An odd brew.
2.6 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 9/20 blackmurder (216) - sadf, Hawaii, USA - APR 19, 2012
I’m not huge on this beer. The aroma is decent., Skunky hops and perfume like grapefruit. Almost chemical in a way. There is something very familiar smelling about this beer and I can’t tell what it is Since I drank this out of a can I have to once again rate it based on the artwork which is incredible. It’s Green and gold, similar to a Mickey’s can but the hornet is replaced with a viking and underneath lies a Mjolnir, or Thor’s Hammer. Pretty sweet. The taste really isn’t all that bad, but it’s not all that good either. It’s sweeter than most IPAs and has a dirty fresh cut grass taste to it. Pleasant in a way but I’ve had much better examples. The palate is very sticky, too. Not liking that aspect one bit. Getting to the point I’ll just say this is a really average IPA with a sweet can.
2.9 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20 Aubrey (3192) - Bellingham, Washington, USA - APR 16, 2012
Hazy orange hue with a decent head and lace. Damp nose. Smooth mouthfeel. Pungently earthy. Hop flavors are reminiscent of wet herbs. Lots of vegetal from start to finish, unfortunately, along with some wet dish rag and plastic. Man, I hate to say it, but I’m just calling it like I’m tasting it. It does have some nice orange notes, along with some bitter rind, but overall it’s just too odd/off for me.
3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 Reid (1434) - Salem,Oregon, Oregon, USA - APR 11, 2012
another 16 oz can from "Lifesource" Salem
$2.49
Burnt orange. slightly hazy body small thick off white head.
Aroma is OK but not as strong as expected sweet, floral and resiny hop clash. Some nuts in their too . maybe
WOAH strange strange taste for an IIPA..sweet,bready,resiny hop bitterness in the end but its not of epic proportions..not an IIPA.
OK the mouthfeel is fine enough..OK
THis is strange stuff..its not horrible but it is not an IIPA hell for me its not even an IPA more a stronger APA.
2.3 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 10/20 mcberko (2472) - Vancouver, British Columbia, CANADA - APR 10, 2012
500mL can at The Beer Mongers, pours a cloudy dark golden orange with a medium off-white head. Aroma of vegetal notes, feet and armpits - gross. Flavour of herbal hops, vegetal notes, feet and armpits, some light butterscotch notes to balance. Tastes like a bad experiment or that the brewers are fucking with me. Also, not sure how this is considered an Imperial IPA at 6.9%. Not good at all.
3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 5000 (4104) - Hardened Liver, Washington, USA - APR 9, 2012
Can:   Amber, slight haze, moderate frothy white head, nice lacing.   Soft husky nose, moderate hoppiness that seems resiny, but not citrusy or floral.   Shallow hoppiness up front, a little mealy, somewhat husky but thankfully not grainy on the backside.   Body and mouthfeel are moderate.   Has a decent amount of sweetness on the finish, but it remains somewhat dull.   Not a bright example.   Solid IPA, for average.
