A gift from my friend Erica during her 2005 Mondial visit, this was our modest contribution to TiggMTL’s post-mondial tasting
Dark crimson, almost sanguine, with a slick ring of lacing. Smoked with hickory chips and peaty, with a side of chocolate. Very nice aroma. Smooth carbonation, rich caramel malts and woodsy, smoldering spices gives this Beer great carnal character. It made me feel like painting my face blue, lift my kilt and moon some Englishmen!

Very nice foamy beige head tops the clearish burgundy body. Candyish and very earthy nose. Mild peatiness lends a certain deepness to the malt profile. Caramel, soy and soil work hands in hands. Bready overtones aptly cover the earthiness on the palate. Pretty rich malt, grapey and slightly smoky. Very good stuff. Thanks Erica!

The Lure: Enticing caramel and toffee smoke pulls the nose closer into the growler to find an able roasted malt. Wealth lives within.
The Festivities: Decent roastiness spikes the caramel malt. Fruitiness diversifies the rotund body. This achieves a full malt exposure without ever being cloying or too heavy.
Transcendence: For a grandfather in the Highlands, a regular meal is a hearty meal.

From growler thanks to Richlikebeer. Light brown color with a small tan head.
Aroma of lightly smoked malt, butter and a touch of caramel. Not the most pleasant aroma, at least to me. Flavor was much better than the aroma. The odd butter aroma was not present in the flavor. Caramel, malt, smoke predominant.
3.2 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20 willblake (2624) - Bel Air, Maryland, USA - MAY 23, 2005
05.22.05 Sampled from growler. Thanks to Richlikebeer, jimmack04 invitational. My first whiff gave me a big burst of acetic something or other that immediately put me off, but as I sniffed it more the aroma mellowed quite a bit into a more appropriate peat, light smoke, toasty biscuit. Flavor is sort of regualr. Earthy and dry. Thin body finishes with a recurring kick of acetic. A bit on the harsh side, I thought, for a scotch ale.
3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 richlikebeer (838) - Easton, Pennsylvania, USA - MAY 23, 2005
huge sweet caramel aroma, hints of smoke and maybe a little vanilla. pour is a deep dark brown, clear with a creamy offwhite head. the flavor was a little bit of a letdown after such a huge aroma. tastes of sweet caramel, hits of chocolate, little bits of smoke. aftertaste was a little bit tangy/acidic, but not too detracting. overall, a smooth tasting enjoyable brew.
