Deep black body, thin bubbly khaki head, spotty lacing. Nice bourbon forward nose with vanilla, oak, chocolate and soft roast, flavor is less impressive as it is less well integrated and developed. Medium to full bodied, smooth carbonation, silky, minimal abv burn.

Bottle. The pour is dark. The aroma is light bourbon and some smoke. The taste is a little light. Not a ton of bourbon until the end. An overall solid beer. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Notes from the first release - cork and cage. Aroma is very light with some smoky malts. Pours dark mahogany with a tan head. The flavors bring malty chocolate notes; roasted and bitter notes round it out as well.

Heathen (1500) - Wilmington, Delaware, USA - SEP 21, 2012
THOUGHTS: Lot’s of chocolate and a decent amount of bourbon in the flavor. The wood especially was noticeable in both the flavor and aroma. Not super complex, but just really nice flavors. TECHNICAL: Bottle. Poured a very dark brown that was basically opaque black in the glass with a small, light brown head that mostly diminished and left barely fair lacing. The aroma had moderate to heavy dark chocolate; moderate roasted malt and coffee; wood; vanilla; and bourbon. The initial flavor was moderate to heavily sweet and lightly bitter; while the finish was moderate to heavily sweet and light to moderately bitter with and average to long duration. There was dark chocolate, roasted malt, coffee, vanilla, bourbon, and wood. The slightly more than medium body was oily and then dry with quite fizzy carbonation and a lightly alcoholic finish.

Aptly named -- subtle flavors around the glass. Poured from bottle, very thick head kind of dampens the aroma. Good beer, but nothing really spectacular. The 9% abv is significant, though. I guess that’s why it’s Insidious.

Solid if unspectacular BA RIS, nose has a lot of alcohol, small hints of chocolate, but a really interesting pretzel sort of character, somewhat salty. A pretty easy to drink beer and certainly not bad at all.

TreborWhip (393) - Reading, Pennsylvania, USA - SEP 4, 2012
Bottle from Ryan pours black with thick, dark brown head. Aroma of roasted malts and whiskey. Flavors include coffee, dark chocolate, molasses, and smooth bourbon. Slightly sweet but balanced nicely with a light hop and peppery finish.
