3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20 joeneugs (1602) - Livermore, USA - AUG 6, 2011
750 ml bottle at ABW. Pours dark brown with a surprisingly light brown head. The aroma is very chocolaty with nuts and wet wood. The flavor is the same and very smooth with some light hints of dark fruit and vanilla. No real bourbon notes except for some nice mild charred barrel and vanilla. Nice and chocolaty and easy to drink yet interesting and balanced. Really good beer.

I am a sucker for this style. +++ Sampled from a 12 oz brown bottle this beer poured a black color with a small foamy dark brown head that faded quickly and left decent lacing. The aroma was bourbon, toasty malts, anise and hints of coconut and vanilla. The flavor was bitter coconut, vanilla, roasty malts, faint anise, bourbon and a sharp boozy presence. The finish was long with bourbon and vanilla lingering. Moderately full bodied. Interesting.
4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20 Darwenus (96) - Virginia, USA - MAY 26, 2012
Inky and entirely opaque, this brew pours with a small and brief head that crackles a bit and then fades quickly. The smell is rich and strong, and so is the flavor. Strong, bitter dark chocolate, hearty malt, crisp hops, and a big, oak finish. This reminds me of Weyerbacher’s Heresy, but smoother and with more of a kick. That bourbon, oaky quality is really present after the sip when I exhale. This beer is very, very good.
3.2 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 10/20 jcartamdg (256) - Spring Hill, Florida, USA - MAY 21, 2012
Pours a dark black appearance with a mocha 2 finger head that disapates into a 1 finger steady head. Aroma is similar to bcbs. Oak and bourbon, vanilla and slight coffee/chocolate. Taste isnt as strong as aroma, not as complex as expected, great bourbon but not the best stout behind it. Smooth and lighter than the average stout. Not bad, especially for a bottle under $10, it’s not ivan but it’s not bad either.
4.3 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 17/20 Dorwart (2161) - Robbinsville, New Jersey, USA - MAY 18, 2012
Growler. Nice strong medium brown head of fine bubbles that reduces very slowly leaving a thin sheet of foam over the surface. Very impressive head. Rich bourbon aroma with some butterscotch, vanilla, rich chocolaty malts and some cookie dough. Color is basically black. Body is a bit thinner than expected. Bourbon accents are very mild in the flavor unlike the aroma which smacks you in the face with bourbon. Some more vanilla and dough with mild chocolaty malts. Could use more malts the increase the mouthfeel and body of the brew. Light alcohol presence and warming. Finishes rich and chocolaty with a bit of lingering vanilla. A pretty damn good imperial stout which benefits from the bourbon barrel aging.

Bottle shared by portableparty! Dark black pour, a little spotty carbonation and a slightly roasty aroma. Flavor is also roasted dark chocolate malt, a nice bourbon balance, some sweet black cherry and boozy and creamy. Nice beer, would buy this locally if priced right at $3ish a bottle.

Bottle from watson1977. Pours black brown with a tight foamy khaki head that leaves a wispy film. Aroma is sweet bitter wood and fruit with malt all around. Taste is more noticeable bourbon and wood with soy roasted malt bitter chocolate and faint vanilla. Palate is full and slick with a drying finish.
4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20 daknole (5856) - Scottsdale, Arizona, USA - MAY 6, 2012
Bottle. Super dark brown pour, chocolate colored head. Aroma is just loaded with chocolate, vanilla, brownies and bourbon. Flavor of bourbon soaked brownies, vanilla, dark brown sugar, pretty damn delicious!
3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 kbutler1 (1115) - Minnesota, USA - APR 14, 2012
Bottle. 12oz. Pours a dark brown/black with a medium tan colored head. Dark chocolate, dark fruit, and bourbon in the nose. Medium/heavy mouthfeel. Dark chocolate but not overly so mixed with bourbon flavors. Slightly hot. Overall, this is a prety tasty brew. It’s not overly bourbon flavored and the heat isn’t anything to extreme to be a deterant. Have never heard of this brewery but pretty impressed with this offering.

12 ounce bottle thanks to Hopdog. Pours a pure black color with a medium brown head. A light chocolate and toasted malt nose, some cocoa and vanilla. The flavor is very good; rich bourbon but not overpowering in anyway, vanilla, roast, light dark fruit, cocoa. A big beer but not too much of anything. Very good.
4.1 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20 NikkTwist (172) - Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA - APR 9, 2012
Draft at the Khyber. Pitch black with a thin tan head. Slight lacing. Milk chocolate. Malted milk. Vanilla bourbon. Nutella. Some charcoal but mostly lighter barrel flavors. Smooth front and middle but a small acidic bite at the end that keeps the palate from getting bogged in sweetness. Not sure the sour note is intentional but it seems to work here by making the brew oddly refreshing (not something one tends to associate with Imperials.) Body reads a bit thin though develops a bit as it warms. Definitely worth a try.
