This is what I want in an imperial stout, a slight smoky aftertaste with some mahogany, some sweet chocolate tones in the aroma, sufficient dryness with a creamy texture and foam, and a malty character which is balanced well with some bitter English hops. 750 from Wegman’s in Easton, PA.

Pours almost black with a reddish tan head. Cocoa scents with a bit of licorice. Flavor is full bodied roasted malt with a clean smoky finish without a sour aftertaste. Very good for a small brewery. Good news is that I’m only twenty mins away from the brewpub. Cheers.

750 cc bottle from Craft Ale House. Pours onyx with very little translucence only at the very bottom of the glass, and a uniform 2-finger tan head with great lacing. Nose is great, a medley of dark patent malt, dark choc, hops, slight coffee, ovaltine, and prunes. Tastes dark malty, with figgy fruit, hops, medium palate heft, a tad watery, fairly complex, but make no mistake about it, although this one is very good, it couldn’t carry Dark Lord’s jock strap, if Dark Lord had junk and this beer had arms.

Poured from big bottle. Aroma of cocoa and coffee ice cream. Stout bleach, tan head with soda-like bubbles. Coffee and dry cocoa flavors, a hint of vanilla and butterscotch, and alcohol vapors in the back. Quite drinkable. Noticing smoke/wood notes. Great stout. Fegley rides again.

On tap, at Allentown location. Pours a dark black body with a one finger creamy beige head that left some thick lacing. Heavy dark chocolate and roast on the nose with some Engligh hops and just a light touch of alcohol. Full and rich flavor with heavy dark baker’s chocolate and thick roast. There’s a nice hop bite to it as well. Very well hidden alcohol. Thick and chewy body with nice soft fine carbonation. A little oily on the back end, coating my cheeks. Very good. Served way way too cold, but after it warmed up this really came alive.
