In short: A well balanced and complex impy stout with a bit of everything. T
How: Bottle 750ml corked & Caged. Consumed with some age on it, probably more than one year old.
The look: Black body topped by a medium tan head with medium retention leaving lots of lacings on the glass.
In long: Nose is somewhat roasted, liquorice candy, raisins and table syrup. Taste has a big fluffy body with molasses, soft liquorice candy, some coffee, raisins, fruit cake, cacao powder, plenty of roast, lactic notes (milk chocolates), leafy hops. Well balanced beer. No alcohol presence whatsoever and a sweetness sensation that is kept in check. Mouthfeel in impy stouts do not get much better than this, big full fluffy body with plenty of very soft bubbles. This is an impy stout that focuses on drinkability more than intensity which probably explains the so-so ratings for the style. Even if nothing groundbreaking I thought this beer offered a good complexity, an engaging mouthfeel and a surprisingly good drinkability. A 750ml really didn’t feel too much, this is an easy drinking impy stout. Excellent beer, underrated, my bottle probably was probably 1 or 2 year old, so this beer might be better with some age on it. I found this one in my cellar and I didn’t even know I had it, I should organize the bottles in my cellar but I’m afraid they will form a union and demand benefits.
4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20 rdelljh (153) - Pennsylvania, USA - APR 18, 2013
Pours a dark rich brown with a creamy tan head. Aromas of dark fruit and smoke. Full bodied and rich texture. A balanced blend of flavors including, fig, chocolate, and bourbon. Reminded me of Lost Abbey’s "The Angels Share"
3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 boxofrane (1184) - pottstown, Pennsylvania, USA - MAR 13, 2013
This is a bottle that has been in my fridge for the better part of a year. Pours black with a huge light brown head that sticks around quite a bit. The aroma is very roasty, slight chocolate. The taste is roasty, light chocolate, light coffee, semi-sweet. This is enjoyable but a little light on flavor and body for the style.
3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20 samsmith33 (187) - - MAR 11, 2013

Bottle at home, 23/02/13, thanks to an IP trade with Kurt from NY.
Corked bomber and the cork did not want to depart by natural means, even when I had my teeth around it I thought it would snap - call for corkscrew!
Mid black/extremely dark mahogony brown with a thin tan head that soon dissipates leaving a light swirl and some edgeing.
Nose is big on chocolate maltesers, molasses, leather, touch of coffee.
Taste comprises roast malt, chocolate, brown sugars, tar, molasses, touch of hops in the background.
Full bodied, soft carbonation, touch of booze in the finish.
Decent Imperial Stout.

Pours an opaque black with a fizzy/crackling tan head. Nose is weird. Probably infected given the pop. A light funk and some dark fruit skins and burnt wood. Slick and dry/chalky flavor. Bitter chocolate and acidic flavor. Bleh.

12 oz bottle, aged about 1 year: Pours dark black, light tan head, lots of bubbles on the glass. Aroma of toasted malts, light spruce hops, light bourbon. Taste is complex, smooth and robust. Deep, rich malt profile some oak, vanilla and bourbon but all well balanced. Palate is smooth, slightly bitter but very nice, nice bourbon balance.
4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 Ibrew2or3 (5761) - Tempe, Arizona, USA - DEC 2, 2012
Corked and caged 750mL that I believe my friend jcwattsrugger just gave me for the heck of it at one point. John, you’re awesome, thanks. It pours very dark with a mocha colored head of foam. The aroma offers up pretty darn rich malts to dark roasted malts to faintly burnt malts and then aged sort of earthy malts with a dash of chocolate. The taste begins smooth modestly creamy with dark roasted malts, chocolate, faint spicy black licorice and molasses. Into the finish a subtle booziness is noticed. This is tasty stuff.
3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20 popkow (255) - Hoboken, New Jersey, USA - AUG 14, 2012
Draft on tap at the brass rail. Black beer with a dark brown head. The aroma has notes of roasted malt, dark chocolate, coffee, and a pinch of alcohol. The body is medium and low carbonation. The flavors come together as a licorice and egg nog combination with alcohol finish.
3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20 markwise (3803) - North of Tampa, Florida, USA - JUL 11, 2012
750 mL from Wegman’s. Pours a stout brown with a tan head. Nose is roasted malts with some coffee, dark chocolate, roasted malts, caramel malts, and some earthy bitterness. The flavor starts off roasty with some earth and mild licorice then quickly goes to coffee, then chocolate in the mid and the finish is a blend of coffee and chocolate with some background bitterness. Interesting stout.
