Bottle at the 14th Richmond Gathering. Pours opaque with a small, fizzy tan head, medium-short retention with light lacing. Aroma and flavor are heavy malt (dark fruit, roast, coffee, chocolate), medium hops (floral, grassy), and light esters (fruity) with notes of licorice, prune, tar, smoke, and leather. Full body, medium warmth and carbonation with a dry finish.
3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 Pawola22 (2203) - Chicago, Illinois, USA - MAY 3, 2012
750ml bottle from Oak Tree Discount Wine and Liquors in South Plainfield, NJ. Pours a black body with a finger-width, dense and creamy, brown head that dissipates slowly and leaves a nice lacing. Aroma is roasty with some chocolates and a good amount of dark fruits. Some caramel, wood, light hops, and a bit of a licorice spice. Flavor is similar. Roasty with dark fruits and some chocolate up front. Some earthiness, a light caramel, and dry wood in the middle. Finishes dry and roasty with a medium-light, earthy bitterness alongside some decent chocolates, a light wood, and some fruitiness. Lengthy aftertaste following a medium body and a lively, higher carbonation. Overall, a pretty basic, but not bad imperial stout. Dry and roasty with a higher, lively carbonation alongside a good amount of chocolate, a light caramel, and some dark fruits. Nothing special, but enjoyable enough.
3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20 5000 (4104) - Hardened Liver, Washington, USA - APR 7, 2012
Bottle: Black, large pillowy light brown head, fairly nice lacing. Soft roasted malts, slight sour dark pitted fruit, a bit of ash too. Has this old barrel aged like character on the tongue, ashy, even a bit woody despite this not being barrel aged? Seems very musty, a bit of bakers chocolate too. Not a very heavy Imperial Stout, but still a bit smooth while remaining slightly bubbley on the tongue. Backside has a bit of acrid like roastiness, a bit husky like. Low hop bitterness, with a dark chocolate like roastiness lingers. ABV is well hidden. Solid Imperial Stout thats lighter and easier to drink than a lot of the heavier examples.
3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20 AirForceHops (1116) - Epping, New Hampshire, USA - MAR 24, 2012
750 ml bottle cellared for just over a year. Paid $9.99 @ Liquor Outlet Wine Cellars, Boonton, NJ. Snifter shows pitch black color with nice, sizable tan head. Respectable lace. Nose is mostly roasted malt and dark fruit. (prunes) and a wisp of chocolate. Flavors follow the nose exactly. Medium body. Creamy, dry texture. One big detraction is even after sitting awhile, I still pick up the ABV. Although it does supply a nice warming sensation. Overall it is ok but… nothing real exceptional.
4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 HighlanderOne (776) - Bergen County, New Jersey, USA - MAR 24, 2012
Poured from big bottle. Aroma of cocoa and coffee ice cream. Stout bleach, tan head with soda-like bubbles. Coffee and dry cocoa flavors, a hint of vanilla and butterscotch, and alcohol vapors in the back. Quite drinkable. Noticing smoke/wood notes. Great stout. Fegley rides again.
3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 FURLYSURIOUS (185) - Orono, Minnesota, USA - MAR 23, 2012
Pours a very stubborn black with a finger or two of soft brown head. On the nose there are bits of bitter chocolate, coffee, sweet malts - really just an approachable BA stout. The taste offers some creamy milk chocolate with a nice toasted hoppy afterburn. A very smooth drinking beer. In between swigs I’m left with a sweet, roasty, woody presence. Solid beer.
3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20 Goodgrief (1656) - Middletown, Delaware, USA - MAR 14, 2012
Bottle purchased at the Allentown Brew Works. Dark pour with ruby highlights and frothy head. Weak aroma of chocolate. The flavor was milk chocolate with hints of lactic a strange caramel/fruity sweetness, hints of ash with some oxidation like metallic flavors (I mean, I bought the bottle from the brewery...no excuse). Just meh.

750 ml bottle from michael-pollack- thanks again, Pollack! Pours a dark, not quite opaque brown color with a small, dark tan head. Aroma of chocolate, coffee, cola, earth, and dark fruits, with a hint of smoke or peat. The flavor has the same odd earthy, fruity, peaty note throwing off the dark chocolate and roasted malts a bit- not significantly, but enough to make it seem off. Medium-bodied, with medium carbonation. Is it the very beginning of an infection that’s throwing this off? Not sure, but I probably wouldn’t sit on it longer if you have it.
3.6 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 Jesterdeal (566) - Marlton, New Jersey, USA - MAR 3, 2012
Aroma is roast malt, cocoa, and slight coffee. Nice and dark. Super huge head which eventually turns into a black stout. Tastes dark and roasty but a little acidic. Misses the mark in the mouth but a nice taste.
2.5 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 8/20 keepersj12 (1812) - Sicklerville, New Jersey, USA - FEB 29, 2012
Not at all what you would expect from an Imperial stout. Barely any aroma to speak of. The flavor has some roast malt and a bit of chocolate. Very, very thin mouth feel.
3.4 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20 Rotbart (65) - - FEB 25, 2012
Pours out with a nice foamy head. Rich black color combined with the head makes a great appearance. Taste is heavy malty with what seemed to be almost a hint of caramel . Finishes with a fairly heavy but enjoyable bitterness.
