Hazy golden with a big white soapy looking head, decent lacing... Fruity somewhat belgian aroma of yeast, but not much spice that one would expect.. Citrusy belgian flavor, almost reminds me in a way of a big witbier... veryvery lively medium body dry finish...

Clear copper coloured body with a ridiculously large off-white head and a zillion bubbles rising from the bottom. Aroma of bread, yeast, grass, hay, wheat, coriander seed and a touch of perfume. Medium-bodied; Assertive grassy and floral flavour with a good yeast note, a little honey and a touch of barnyard flavours - All with a great effervescence and bubbly mouthfeel. Aftertaste is complex with a great yeast and grassy/herbal flavour - very nice actually. Overall, a very nice beer with a great set of flavours, good complexity and a very nice mouthfeel with great texture. I sampled this 75 cL bottle purchased from Liqour Outlet in Boonton, New Jersey on 27-November-2011 for US$7.55 sampled at home in Washington on 15-December-2011.

An enormous head on light yellow. Lacey. A little funky, and on the sweet side. Lemoney, a soft though average mouthfeel, above average carbonation. Decent drinkability.

This poured a very murkly straw yellow color with a white head. Aroma was very very strange, very vegetable like with some dirt and rotten eggs. Flavor was litterally undrinkable, im hoping this was infected or something. Way over carbonated too. Just bad.

The beer pours blush pink amber with a bubbly super-light pink head. The aroma is sweet delicious berry saison, my favorite part of the brew. The body is very bubbly with a watered down saison flavor and light berry notes that are a bit tart on the end.

750mL bottle. Poured cloudy straw golden with a short-moderate, sticky white head.. left some lacing as it descended.. looked aiight in the glass. The aroma was fairly aggressive, even when cold, with lemon pepper and grains of paradise leading.. honey and bready sweetness supported.. smelled like there were a lot of sugars AND a solid dose of sourness.. intriguing. The flavor opened with tangy lemon rind, with mostly bready sweetness washing onto the middle.. more lemon and grains of paradise spiced up the edges.. some vanilla bean showed, and increased in intensity as it warmed up.. very dry on the finish with the aforementioned spices and vanlla bean.. tasty stuff. Medium-bodied and spicy on the palate with tight, bright carbonation.. this lacked subtlety, but the balance was there.. I really enjoyed this.

The Monkey Wrench is not a very good saison at all. It’s drinkable and a bit enjoyable, but doesn’t carry much of the desired qualities of a good saison-style beer. The body is a bit too heavy, the color is too dark, there isn’t that much of a wild yeast or natural flavor, there is absoutely no head and the finish is too spritzy and carbonated. I really like a lot of the Brew Works beers, but this offering seems a little forced, or maybe they tried a little too hard to make this style happen. I did get some fruity and bready flavors, but it just wasn’t enough.
