Bottle. Absolutely horrible. Watery, stale, some boiled vegetables. Unbelievably bad. I can’t write anything else about it. Green apples in the finish.

The National Ale of Wales“.

Reasonably well hopped, balanced, drinkable bitter. Nothing exciting but fine as a session beer.
2.5 AROMA 3/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20 BlackHaddock (1709) - Shropshire, ENGLAND - APR 15, 2012
Bottle: poured into an ’Abbot Ale’ glass tankard.
The best before date wasn’t complete on the cap, but Sept 2011 seems the best bet, the review was carried out on 7 Jan 2011.
Rather red in colour for a ’Pale Ale’, clear and clean looking. The white head left before it arrived.
Malts in the smell, with red berries as the beer warms, but nothing very strong. The rear label mentions toffee and nutty flavours within the beer, some toffee maybe, but certainly no nuts for me!
Those red berries appear in the taste too (as do those toffee mentions), the malts are also there, but lack depth within the flavours. Some hop hints, but again nothing powerful and without nuts.
Expected more from ’The National Ale of Wales’ and I’m sure the cask version is a whole lot better, if I remember correctly (but it was many moons ago).

3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 Leighton (4100) - London, Greater London, ENGLAND - MAR 19, 2012
Bottle at home in London. Pours clear, light golden-brown with a soft, white foam head. Some toasted dough in the nose, light toasted grass and faint berries. Light sweet flavor, faint caramel and toffee, toast, mild prunes. Light bodied with fine, crisp carbonation. Pleasant, crisp finish, lightly bitter with toasted grass, mild toffee, faint nuts, light leaves. Slightly bland character but pretty drinkable overall.

Taste is light caramel sweetness and fruit with some nutty notes and a mild hoppy bitter finish. Medium body and lively carbonation. A decent bitter ale worthy of a tasting.

My first rating in a while, 412th beer tried this year. Interesting ale, i had no glass available so couldn’t see it well, I guess at a copper colour with a decent head. Strong nose of toffee, fruits and nuts, flavour is much the samewith a light to medium body, watery though in places. Nice pint to have on the train at 11:30am.

Bottle at home. Deep amber pour, thin white head. Aroma has some licorice, slightly spiced hops, some black tea and a hint of bergamot. Flavor is slightly bitter, somewhat spicy, quite mild and a bit boring. Quite drinkable though.
